  • Patent number: 8756763
Abstract: A vehicle door hinge for a passenger or driver side vehicle door. The hinge has a chassis mounting plate securely fastenable to the vehicle frame, a swingarm securely fastenable to the vehicle door, a bi-directional rotation mechanism connecting the chassis mounting plate to the swingarm and allowing rotation of the swingarm in a substantially horizontal plane and in a substantially vertical plane, first and second bearing surfaces positioned to rotate with the bi-directional rotation mechanism and to bear against each other when the swingarm is rotated in the substantially horizontal plane, and not to bear against each other when the swingarm is rotated in the substantially vertical plane, and a spring attached at one end to the swingarm and at the other end to the vehicle frame or to the chassis mounting plate, for counter-balancing the weight of the vehicle door when the swingarm is rotated in the vertical plane.

  • Patent number: 7941897
Abstract: A vehicle door hinge for a passenger or driver side vehicle door. The hinge has a chassis mounting plate securely fastenable to the vehicle frame, a swingarm securely fastenable to the door, a bi-directional rotation mechanism operatively connected to the chassis mounting plate and to the swingarm allowing rotation of the swingarm in a horizontal plane and in a vertical plane, and a sag adjuster screw positioned to bear against a sag adjuster screw guide when the swingarm is rotated in the horizontal plane.

  • Patent number: 7812500
Abstract: A generator and/or electrical motor features elongated electromagnets which extend coaxially, not radially, about the axis of rotation of the axle, thus allowing multiple rings of magnets to be used. A chassis carries the electromagnets with the air gap surfaces of the electromagnets extending sideways, free of coils, into the air gaps with the plural rings of field magnets. Gearing arrangements may allow the ends of the can and the rings of field magnets mounted thereon to counter-rotate relative to one another. There may be four, eight or other numbers of rings of field magnets.

  • Publication number: 20090293924
Abstract: An automatic umbrella has an electric motor, nose, and gear assembly which rides up or down the interior of the handle/body of the umbrella on threading/gearing on the interior of the umbrella shaft. As the traveler assembly rises the ribs hingedly connected to the traveler extend through notches or slots in the end of the umbrella, until the nose extends out the end and the ribs actually swing downwards. Motion of the ribs is controlled by a pin or guide on the side of the notch which cooperates with the shaped sides of the umbrella ribs. The nose acts to tension the canopy in the deployed position. The traveler may move due to a rotating gear engaging the threaded inside surface of a tubular body, or the tubular body may be rotated (preferably within an outer housing) and the traveler forced upward by the motion.

  • Publication number: 20090295187
Abstract: An improved vehicle door hinge allows a door to swing open in a horizontal plane in order to clear the vehicle frame, this rotation is accomplished by a hinge. A curved rail mounted on the door then allows the hinge portion to move upward, the curvature of the rail allowing a small amount of motion of the rail to cause a twist of the door as it moves, and the twist causes the door to move clear of the doorway of the vehicle frame. The rail comprises roller races on each edge, the rail races have running on them a set of four rollers, two rollers on each edge of the rail. The hinge is located on one end of the rail.

  • Patent number: 7552514
Abstract: The invention provides a method of opening a vehicle door in a doorway of a vehicle body, the method comprising: rotating such vehicle door in a horizontal plane of motion until such vehicle door substantially clears such vehicle body; and then rotating such vehicle door in a vertical plane of motion until such vehicle door substantially clears such door way. The invention may be easily retrofitted to existing vehicles or factory installed.

  • Publication number: 20090084112
Abstract: Engine air may be cooled at any point in the intake passageways by means of a remote thermoelectric temperature control unit which cools a liquid, gas or other coolant in a coolant circuit, the coolant then contacting the circuit to a point in the intake passageways where engine air is cooled by means of a coolant to gas heat exchanger. A reservoir of cold coolant, or a cold sink, may be cooled substantially so that when the engine demands an increased supply of air a reservoir of cooled coolant is available. Engine air may be cooled in the ram or scoop, in the cold air intakes, in an intercooler, in a turbocharger, supercharger, chargecooler, throttle body, carburetor or at any other point in the engine air intake passageways.

  • Patent number: 6845547
Abstract: A vehicular door hinge mechanism provides for a motion in two different directions at two different portions of the door's motion cycle. The present invention provides a hinge which allows the door of the vehicle to move outwards in a substantially horizontal plane for a predetermined arc, then move vertically upwards on another predetermined arc thereafter. The invention comprises a hinge mechanism having a chassis mounting plate and a swingarm. Between them is either a pivotal bearing or a hinge designed to allow the staged two dimensional motion of the invention. A spring or cylinder is connected at its ends to the chassis mounting plate and the swingarm. A horizontal pressure bearing surface and a cam adjuster cooperate to provide strength and precise fit of the door with the vehicle.
