Abstract: A TV advertisement server (TA server) and method of providing advertising-on-demand includes a TV, a set-top-box (STB) connected with the TV, and connected with the STB. When the STB sends a request to download a TA list, the TA server sends the TA list to the STB for a user selecting one or more desired TV advertisements. The TA server may generate a new TA list according to the selection and acquire the selected TV advertisements from a storage device. The acquired TV advertisements may be transmitted to the STB and broadcasted on the TV.

Abstract: A media list server communicating with a plurality of media database servers and a client device comprises a receiving module, a storing module, a recording module, a determining module, a calculating module and a list generating module. The receiving module receives a user identification information and vote information. The storing module stores properties of the media and weights of the properties. The recording module records the vote information. The determining module determines whether a user has logged in for the first time according to the user identification information, and determines a popularity of each media according to the vote information. The calculating module calculates similarities of the media according to the properties and weights of the properties. The list generating module generates the favorite media list according to the popularity and the similarities of the media.

Abstract: An electronic program guide (EPG) server bridges at least one middleware server with at least one set-top box (STB). The EPG server transmits an EPG request to the middleware server to receive electronic program guides comprising one or more different file formats to the middleware server and transforms the EPGs into EPGs having a preset file format. The EPG server further transmits the EPGs with the preset file format to the at least one STB.

Abstract: A replayable TV system (100) comprises a multicast server (10), access to an IP TV network (20), a media server (30), at least one set top box (40), and a time-shift server (50). The multicast server multicasts a TV program to the media server and the at least one set top box through the IP TV network. The time-shift server controls the media server to record the program. At any time point during the multicasting of a TV program, if a set top box requests the time-shift server replay the TV program, the time-shift server sends the uniform resource locator corresponding to the TV program to the set top box. The set top box switches automatically from multicast unicast mode and receives the recorded program from the media server.

Abstract: A set top box communicates with a plurality of configuration servers for obtaining setting parameters from the configuration servers. The set top box includes a configuration server list cache, a selecting module, an obtaining module, and a setting module. The configuration server list cache stores a list of internet protocol (IP) addresses of the plurality of configuration servers onto a memory system of the set top box. The selecting module selects one IP address from the list of the IP addresses. The obtaining module sends a parameter setting request to one configuration server corresponding to the selected IP address and obtaining a parameter setting message from said configuration server, wherein the one configuration server is selected from the plurality of configuration severs. The setting module sets the set top box according to the parameter setting message. A parameter setting method is also provided.
