  • Patent number: 7550103
Abstract: An apparatus and method of producing plastic articles comprising preheating a metal mold having a mold contour using infrared heating elements formed to match said mold contour to establish a casting temperature, casting plastic material onto the preheated metal mold surface, fusing the plastic using infrared energy, cooling the metal mold using the change of phase or state of a cooling material and removing the cast plastic article from said metal mold.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 15, 2003
Date of Patent: June 23, 2009
Assignee: International Automotive Components Group North America, Inc.
Inventors: Robert A. Grimmer, Dave Syphers, Denis Moore
  • Patent number: 7425294
Abstract: An apparatus and method of producing plastic articles comprising preheating a metal mold (10) using infrared energy to establish a casting temperature, casting plastic material onto the preheated mold surface, fusing the plastic into a substantially uniform layer using infrared energy, cooling the metal mold using evaporative cooling, and removing the cast plastic article from said metal mold (10).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 9, 2002
Date of Patent: September 16, 2008

  • Patent number: 5269559
Abstract: A steering wheel (12) incorporates an air bag unit (22). The air bag unit has a cover door (30) with a transducer (38) molded in a deformable front wall (35) of the cover door. The transducer is operably connected to an electrical circuit (42) that actuates a horn (44) when the circuit senses an actuating output voltage at the output lead (41) of the transducer (38). The transducer produces the actuating output voltage when hand pressure is exerted on the front wall (35).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 29, 1992
Date of Patent: December 14, 1993

  • Patent number: 5133604
Abstract: Evaporation boats utilized in the vacuum metalizing process are categorized based on evaporation characteristics thereof to match similar boats for the metalizing process. Power is supplied to the evaluation boat and the period of time required for the evaluation boat to reach a predetermined temperature is monitored. This period of time is indicative of the evaporation rate of the boat during the metalizing process and is used to categorize and match boats as super slow, slow or fast.
