    Abstract: Generating ferrate ex situ by activating persulfate with BOF steel slag fines and/or ferric iron. A persulfate solution flows therethrough or thereover the BOF steel slag within, for example, a filter, fluidized bed or continuously stirred tank reactor. The ex situ generation will produce a leachate that contains multiple reactive oxidant species (ROS) such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), superoxide (O2.), sulfate radicals, hydroxyl radicals (OH.) and uniquely ferrate species including Fe IV, V and VI. These ROS will destroy organic compounds, sterilize, and can oxidize inorganics and a wide range of targeted contaminants in distressed water (e.g., drinking water, process water, wastewater, industrial process streams/waters, municipal process streams/waters, landfill leachate, sewage/septic systems, bilge waters, drilling fluids, mine effluents).

    Abstract: Chemically oxidizing a wide range of targeted contaminants in soils, sludges, and groundwater and assisting in the eventual (over time) biological attenuation of the contaminants utilizing persulfates activated by BOF steel slag and iron species, such as ferric iron. The use of BOF steel slag and iron species to activate persulfate results in a formation of persulfate-based reactive species and ferrate (pH stabilized) for multiple chemical oxidation processes that rapidly degrade target contaminants. Furthermore, residual iron sulfate supports biodegradation of partially oxidized compounds.

A spool mechanism extends between the flexible opposing sides and engages a third side of the frame. The screen winds up on the spool mechanism. The spool mechanism is biased to the wind up position. The spool mechanism has a speed reducer which comprises a resistance structure moving through a viscous fluid to reduce the speed of the biased screen when moving to the wind up position.

    Abstract: The present invention includes an improved tubular skylight system (10) having a clear acrylic outer dome (20), an aluminum flashing (40), an aluminum light tube (60), an aluminum ceiling plaster ring (80), and a prismatic diffuser (100). The outer dome (20) includes an aluminum ring (24) around the base (22) of the dome (20) which contains a circular channel (32) and holes (34). The aluminum ring (24) allows the outer acrylic dome (20) to be attached directly to the flashing (40) thereby substantially decreasing the risk of crack formation in the acrylic dome (20). Moreover, the surface of the acrylic dome (20) is imprinted to refract, a substantially increased amount of the natural light down into the light tube (60). The lower end (64) of the light tube (60) extends to the inside of the ceiling and sits on the plaster ring (80). The upper end (62) of the light tube (60) is reciprocally received in the flashing (40), but the outer dome (20) attaches directly to the flashing (40).
