  • Publication number: 20210310191
Abstract: The invention relates to a drying section and comprises one or more through air drying cylinders 3, 5 and a permeable fabric 9 that runs in a loop and wraps part of the circumference of each through air drying cylinder. The loop of the fabric 9 is divided in a web-carrying part 10 and a conditioning part 11. The web-carrying part extends from a receiving point 12 to a transfer point 15 where a fibrous web is transferred to a further component. The conditioning part extends from the transfer point 15 to the receiving point 12. The conditioning part has a cleaning section 19 comprising a shower 20 to wash residue from the fabric. A dewatering section 21 is arranged to act on the fabric 9 after the cleaning section and comprises one or several suction dewatering devices 22. An applicator section 23 is arranged in the conditioning part 11 after the dewatering section. The applicator section comprises an applicator 24 for applying release agent on the fabric 9.

  • Publication number: 20190078260
Abstract: The invention relates to a suction device (15) for use in a papermaking machine (1). The suction device (15) has a length (L) in the machine direction that extends from a first end (16) to a second end (17). The suction device (15) further has a surface (18) which, during use of the suction device (15) in the papermaking machine, will be facing a permeable fabric (4, 6) passing the suction device during operation such that this surface (18) is a fabric-facing surface (18). The fabric-facing surface (18) has a first part (19) which begins at the first end (16) of the suction device (15) and extends towards the second end (17) but ends before the second end (17) of the suction device. The first part (19) of the fabric-facing surface (18) is formed by a plurality of planar surfaces (23) which constitute end surfaces of a plurality of solid elements (21) and lie in the same plane such that, during operation, they can contact a fabric (4, 6) gliding over the fabric-facing surface (18) along a straight path.

  • Patent number: 10132034
Abstract: The invention relates to a suction device (15) for use in a papermaking machine and being suitable for acting on a wet fibrous web through a permeable fabric (4, 6), e.g. a through-air-drying (TAD)-fabric. The suction device has a fabric-facing surface (18) formed by a plurality of end surfaces of solid elements (21, 22). Channels (24, 25) are defined between the solid elements. The end surface of the final solid element (22) does not lie in the same plane as the end surfaces of the previous solid elements (21). Thereby, a gap A is formed between the fabric (4, 6) and the final solid element (22). This allows air to flow through the gap and into a final channel (25). The air flow will then catch fines, small fibers and water droplets and draw them into the final channel (25) thereby counteracting a build-up of large lumps of fines and fibers.

  • Publication number: 20050204581
Abstract: A drying section for a papermaking machine includes an initial dryer having a rotatable through-air drying cylinder for providing initial drying of a wet paper web entering the drying section, and a fabric for receiving the web. The fabric is configured to receive the web at a web receiving point. and to advance the web at least partially about the cylinder in a rotational direction from an inlet to an outlet, the angular distance between the inlet and the outlet defining a wrap angle. A roll disposed adjacent to the cylinder defines the inlet. The roll is also disposed upstream with respect to the rotational direction from a tangent to the cylinder, wherein the tangent is defined by an engagement between the fabric and the cylinder absent the roll, to increase the wrap angle about the cylinder with respect to the tangent. Associated apparatuses and methods are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20050204580
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for conditioning a fabric being advanced in a machine direction in a papermaking machine. The fabric has an outer side adapted to engage a paper web and an opposing inner side. Such an apparatus comprises a fluid-emitting device configured to wet the fabric with a fluid so as to clean the fabric. An arcuate member disposed downstream of the fluid-emitting device is configured to engage the outer side of the fabric. More particularly, the arcuate member is configured to have the fabric wrapped at least partially thereabout such that the advancing fabric is centrifugally dewatered. Associated systems and methods are also provided.
