    Abstract: A proximity fuze (proximity fuse) comprising an ultra wideband (UWB) radar transmitter, a UWB radar receiver, an antenna, a timing system, and a signal processor. One embodiment includes an antenna with an annular conical radiation pattern. In another embodiment, a trigger delay is produced that is related to target detection range. In a further embodiment, multiple range shells are utilized to further discriminate target characteristics including velocity. A method is disclosed that utilizes target range, velocity, signal amplitude, and radar signal phase to identify the target and trigger the detonation. A proximity fuze system having a long storage life is disclosed comprising a proximity fuze element powered by a turbine generator and internal gas source.

    Abstract: A method for calibrating an impulse radio distance measuring system comprising an impulse radio transceiver by conducting a pulse through a transmit receive switch to an antenna, receiving return energy which has been discharged across the transmit receive switch, determining a time of arrival of the return energy. The return energy is comprised of two distinct pulses, one of which represents discharge of the transmit switch as the original pulse travels to the antenna, the second represents energy reflected from the antenna and again discharged across the transmit receive switch while the switch is in the transmit position. The timing of the un-reflected energy is determined then the timing of the reflected energy relative to the un-reflected energy is determined through auto-correlation of the time domain scan of the received composite waveforms.

    Abstract: A scheme for compensating for both near-end (NEXT) and far-end (FEXT) crosstalk within a communication connector having first and second pairs of contact wires. A first stage of compensation includes capacitive coupling that corresponds in magnitude to a sum of offending capacitive and offending inductive crosstalk both of which originate from a mating connector. At a second stage of compensation, both (a) inductive coupling corresponding in magnitude to the offending inductive crosstalk, and (b) capacitive coupling corresponding in magnitude and of opposite polarity to the inductive coupling, are produced. In the disclosed embodiment, the first and the second compensation stages are implemented in an industry type RJ-45 communication jack to meet or surpass Category 6 NEXT/FEXT loss levels.

    Abstract: The invention concerns multipliers used to modulate a carrier by a signal. The signal is delivered by a Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filter, which requires a load impedance of low value, in the range of tens of ohms, and almost certainly less than 200 ohms. The invention modifies a Gilbert multiplier such that its signal-input stage presents the required load impedance to the SAW. The input impedance of the signal-input stage is adjustable.

    Abstract: An "Anti-Piracy" system and method are disclosed which includes an FSK modulator at the head end CATV transmitting location which, in response to data from an addressing computer, randomly issues Anti-Piracy commands (APC) which are transmitted to the set-top converters in the system. The converters are programmed to anticipate an interrupt in the FSK RF signals following the reception of an APC signal. The system and method are designed to curtail piracy by the use of audio recording techniques which have been used to obtain unauthorized service.
