Abstract: Silicone-free compositions including hydrocarbons of widely different structures and origins combined with coated particles are provided which have both aesthetic and volatility properties similar to cyclopentasiloxane dispersions. The compositions are useful as full or partial replacement products for dispersions of cyclopentasiloxane, or “volatile silicones.” The compositions are useful in UV-attenuating formulations including skin care products, color cosmetics, pharmaceutical products and especially sun care products such as sunblocks, sunscreens, tanning lotions, and the like.

Abstract: A flexible capsule formed from a modified starch free of animal based gelatin. The invention provides a novel capsule defining a closed interior chamber, the capsule being formulated from a composition which is free of animal based gelatin comprising at least one plant based starch having been modified to have gelatin like properties; and a paint ball formulation, drug, vitamin, perfume or bath product contained within the capsule.

Abstract: Disclosed are fill compositions suitable for carrying pigment and encapsulation within gelatin capsules comprising:(a) a polyoxyalkylene glycol having a mean molecular weight of from about 200-500;(b) glycerol;(c) water;(d) an oleaginous material;(e) a carboxylic copolymer; and(f) a neutralizing agent for the carboxylic polymer in an amount effective to neutralize at least about 75% of the carboxylic acid groups on the polymer. Also disclosed are gelatin capsules containing sych compositions and methods for preparing the fill compositions.

Abstract: A compressed powder formulation which consists essentially of an organophilic clay and at least one topical agent. The formulation maintains its physical integrity upon handling thereby permitting the preparation of the formulation in the form of self-supporting sticks and exhibits an acceptable level of payout. Additionally, the formulation retains an acceptable level of payout even when contacted with water. A process of making the formulation by compressing a powderous mixture is also set forth.
