  • Publication number: 20180088285
Abstract: Aspects and techniques of the present disclosure relate to a cleaning substrate with liquid-filled microcapsules embedded therein. The cleaning substrate may include cleaning swabs, tapes, or textiles that can be used to provide enhanced cleaning of optical fiber end faces. Cleaning is achieved by bringing the liquid-filled microcapsules into contact with a surface of application, such as an end face of an optical fiber connector. When the cleaning substrate is rubbed in contact with the surface of application, liquid burst from the liquid-filled microcapsules of the cleaning substrate to remove foreign matter or contamination, such as oil and dust, from the surface of application.

  • Publication number: 20160363732
Abstract: Some example methods of connectorizing an end of an optical cable include providing the ferrule assembly including a ferrule, a stub optical fiber extending rearwardly from the ferrule, and a flange disposed about the ferrule; splicing the stub optical fiber to an optical fiber of the optical cable at a splice location; and overmolding a rear hub portion (e.g., without any protective layers disposed between the rear hub portion and the stub optical fiber and optical fiber of the optical cable) using an adhesive material. The flange may include Nylon 6, 6. Splicing the fibers may include pulling the fibers away from each other during splicing without separating the fibers.

  • Patent number: 9365376
Abstract: Coreless tissue rolls can be produced without having to use an adhesive to form a hollow center. Instead, moisture can be used to promote light hydrogen bonding between the layers of the tissue web that line the hollow center. The hydrogen bonding provides sufficient structure to maintain the shape of the hollow center without rendering the tissue web surrounding the passageway unusable. Passageways can also be formed in accordance with the present disclosure that are substantially circular so that the rolls will easily spin on a spindle. In an alternative embodiment, moisture is not used in constructing the wound tissue roll.

  • Patent number: 8864061
Abstract: A winder for winding a web to produce a rolled product is provided. The winder includes a web transport apparatus that is used for conveying the web. Also included in one exemplary embodiment is a plurality of independent winding modules. The winding modules are independently positioned to independently engage the web as the web is conveyed by the web transport apparatus. The winding modules may be configured to wind the web to form a rolled product by center winding, surface winding, and combinations of center and surface winding. The winding modules are structurally and operationally independent of one another where if one module is disabled, another may still operate to produce the rolled product without shutting down the winder.
