  • Patent number: 8429005
Abstract: Interactive electronic representations of advertising images published in visual media sources enable data about interest in an object or objects appearing in the advertising images to be collected. From comparing against aggregated data from interactions with interactive electronic representations, the effectiveness of displaying an object, such as representing a product or service, in a particular advertising image can be relatively measured.

  • Patent number: 6557006
Abstract: A system and method for displaying an interactive electronic representation (“IER”) of a corresponding static media object is provided by associating a unique identification tag with a static media object. The unique identification tag is also associated with the IER, which is stored in a computer database. An application program for retrieving the IER embodying aspects of the present invention may receive the unique identification tag and, based upon the unique identification tag, locate and display the corresponding IER. A user of the application program may then interact with the IER by selecting portions of the IER. When a portion of the IER is selected, additional information regarding the selected portion of the IER may be displayed to the user.

  • Patent number: 6535889
Abstract: A system and method for displaying an interactive electronic representation (“IER”) of a conventional static media object, such as an electronic publication containing a digital image, is provided by associating a unique identification tag with a static media object. The unique identification tag is also associated with the IER, which is stored in a computer database. An application program for retrieving the IER embodying aspects of the present invention may receive the unique identification tag and, based upon the unique identification tag, locate and display the corresponding IER. When a portion of the IER is selected, additional information regarding the selected portion of the IER may be displayed to the user.

  • Patent number: 6398001
Abstract: An oval-shaped sensor is used to measure the material content of the outer ring of a bicolour coin, the coil being mounted on a ferrite whose inner portion has a diameter which is wider than the inner disc of the bicolour coin so that eddy currents are confined to the outer ring. A thickness sensor may be mounted within the oval sensor, and a separate coil is used for measuring the material content of the inner disc. The thickness sensor may also be used for measuring material down to a different depth, for validating clad coins. The oval sensor is used also for diameter measurement.

  • Patent number: 6359287
Abstract: A module (28) for sensing the edges of a banknote as it passes through the module. The module consists of an array of LEDs (32) optically coupled to a light diffusing element (36) past which the banknote moves. A CCD array (40) has photoelectric conversion elements coupled to the path in which the banknote moves by a self-focusing fiber-optic lens array (38). The CCD array consists of four segments (42,44,46,48) having individual shift registers which are read out in parallel, and converted to digital signals by a number of comparators (56). The comparators compare the CCD pixel output with individual threshold levels which are stored in a digital memory (54). The pixel threshold levels are converted to an analog signal for comparison with the CCD output signals by digital to analog converters (54). The digital data streams produced are divided into series of data which are analyzed to determine the presence of an optical transition in the corresponding pixel series of the CCD arrays.

  • Patent number: 6292579
Abstract: A document validator includes a document path along which a document is conveyed and an inductive sensor for sensing features of the document. The sensor has a first inductive element disposed on a first side of a plane of the document path and a second inductive element disposed on a second side of the plane of the document path. Circuitry coupled to an output of the inductive sensor processes signals relating to a determination of at least one of the presence, authenticity and denomination of the inserted document. The sensor need not physically contact a document, such as a banknote, as it is conveyed along the document path.

  • Patent number: 6070710
Abstract: A photoelectric measurement is made by charging (or discharging) a capacitor at a charge rate dependent on the intensity of the light received by a sensor. The time taken for the charge level to change by a predetermined amount is measured, and the operation is repeated, with the time intervals being accumulated, for a number of times, the number being dependent on the charge rate, so as to enhance resolution of high-intensity measurements. A single comparator is used to detect when the charge level passes through a first level, to initiate the timing, and through a second level, to stop the timing, by altering the threshold level so as to avoid errors due to varying propagation delays.

  • Patent number: 5931277
Abstract: A method of testing coins comprising at least taking two measurements of an unknown coin: and accepting said unknown coin as corresponding to a first coin type if the point defined by the measurements lies, in the space defined by the axes of the measurements, on a first side of a discriminant surface at which the Mahalanobis distances of the centers of the distribution of said first coin type and a second coin type are in a predetermined relationship, characterized in that said relationship corresponds (at least approximately) to equality of the sums of the respective Mahalanobis distances with respective predetermined constants at least one of which is non-zero.

  • Patent number: 4625851
Abstract: A coin testing apparatus subjects a coin inserted into a coin entry (1) and rolling down an inclined track (2) to testing at a testing station (3) comprising sensors (4,5,6) which may for example be inductive sensors. If a coin is found to be acceptable an accept signal is generated and this causes gate mechanism (8) to open to permit the coin to access accept path (9), the gate mechanism (8) being normally closed so that unacceptable coins can only access a reject path (10). A post-gate detector (11) in the accept path (9) senses the passage of an accepted coin and serves to close the gate mechanism (8) and also to determine allocation of a customer credit. A pre-gate detector (12) upstream of the gate mechanism (8) has its output logically processed with the accept signal produced when an acceptable coin is tested and/or with the output of the post-gate detector (11).

  • Patent number: 4601380
Abstract: Apparatus for checking the validity of coins, the apparatus requiring electrical power for its coin checking operation, and comprising a coin path, and at least one sensor (HF1,LF,HF2) for interacting with a coin on the coin path to provide an information signal, characterized by one of said interacting sensors (HF1) providing an information signal in response to at least the great majority of coin types, a circuit (316,315) for determining whether the information signals are indicative of an acceptable coin, and a detector (316) operable by the occurrence of the information signal from said one interacting sensor to initiate the application within the apparatus of power adequate for its coin checking operation, the detector being adapted to so operate irrespective of whether or not the information signal from said one interacting sensor is indicative of an acceptable coin, whereby said power application occurs substantially every time a coin passes along the coin path.
