  • Patent number: 11160498
Abstract: A device and method for measuring prosthetic or orthotic slip is presented. An optical sensor device is attached to the prosthesis or orthosis and measures the amount of relative motion between the prosthetic socket and the residual limb surface or between the orthosis and the affected body part. The sensor device is comprised of an optical sensor, a light source, a processing unit and a power source contained within a housing. A system for measuring multidirectional prosthetic or orthotic slip using the sensor device and automatically adjusting the fit of the prosthetic based on a determined threshold is also presented.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: November 2, 2021
    Assignee: University of South Florida
Inventors: Matthew Michael Wernke, Samuel Lon Phillips, Derek James Lura, Stephanie Lutton Carey, Rajiv V. Dubey
  • Patent number: 10959861
Abstract: A method for adjusting a flexion angle of a prosthetic ankle includes a user adjusting a relative angle between first and second coupling members of the prosthetic ankle using a flexion angle adjustment mechanism of the prosthetic ankle that requires no tools to adjust.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 12, 2019
Date of Patent: March 30, 2021
    Assignee: UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA
Inventors: Michael Jason Highsmith, Derek James Lura

  • Patent number: 10034783
Abstract: In one embodiment, an adjustable prosthetic ankle separate from a prosthetic foot includes an upper coupling member, a lower coupling member that couples with the upper coupling member, and a flexion angle adjustment mechanism associated with the coupling members that enables a user to change a relative angle between the coupling members, and therefore a flexion angle of the prosthetic ankle, without using any tools.
