  • Patent number: 6720044
Abstract: The invention relates to pharmaceutical closures for containers made of flexible polyolefinic materials which are suitable to be filled with parentally administrable fluids prior to their sealing and sterilization. The polyolefinic closures have an excellent resealing capacity after being penetrated by a piercing device for establishing fluid communication with the container, even after multiple entries into the container.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: April 13, 2004
    Assignee: Pharmacia AB
    Inventors: Gunnar Andersson, Des Mulligan
  • Publication number: 20030060796
Abstract: The invention relates to a port system for establishing fluid communication with a container for storing medical fluids and a device for adding or withdrawing fluids from said container comprising at least one port having a sealed front end and a rear end open to the inside of said container and a base plate attachable to said container, wherein said port has a penetrable membrane serving as a barrier to the stored fluids. The port comprises a cap in its front end which axially extends into an essentially sleeve formed part provided with said penetrable membrane which is scaled from contamination by said cap and furthermore it is provided with means to expose said penetrable membrane when it is desired to establish fluid communication with the container.

  • Publication number: 20020197426
Abstract: The invention relates to a process of preparing pharmaceutical closures for containers made of flexible polymeric materials which are suitable to be filled with parenterally administerable fluids prior to their scaling and sterilization. The process involves a specific relaxation period for the elastomer material of the closure which thereby can settle and develop resealing characteristics. The closures will have an excellent resealing capacity after being penetrated by a piercing device for establishing fluid communication with the container, even after multiple entries into the container.

  • Patent number: 6308847
Abstract: A sealed container opening, intended for fluid communication with a container for storing medical fluids, comprising a tubular sleeve-formed part (22, 22A) having a resilient pierceable stopper (24, 24A) inserted in its mouth (21, 21A) and a covering sealing device (10, 10A). The sealed container opening contains the same autoclavable polyolefinic material as the container. All parts of said container opening, exposed to the fluid or fluid handling devices are sterilized in a single process by means of steam transferred to these parts during its autoclavation. Saddle formed port systems attachable to a flexible containers are also disclosed.
