  • Patent number: 5547811
Abstract: A photosensitive material for making color-proofing films for multicolor printing is described, withA) a transparent flexible support of plastic,B) a photopolymerizable layer on (A) which containsB1) a polymeric binder,B2) a compound polymerizable by a free-radical mechanism,B3) a compound which is capable of initiating the polymerization of (B2) under the action of actinic light andB4) a dye or a color pigment in a primary color of the multicolor print, andC) a thermoplastic adhesive layer which comprises at least one polymer which contains units (C1) with aliphatic side chains having at least 5 carbon atoms. The material is processed by laminating to an image receptor sheet, exposure and peeling apart of support and image receptor sheet, the unexposed layer areas remaining together with the adhesive layer on the image receptor sheet. These steps are repeated with at least one further image in primary colors. The material provides for a reduction of the background stain in the non-image areas.

  • Patent number: 5202394
Abstract: Graft polymers in which carboxylic acid vinyl esters and if appropriate other ethylenically unsaturated monomers are grafted polymerically onto polyurethane graft bases by means of grafting polymerization initiated by free radicals, and hydrolysis products of the graft polymers can be obtained by grafting carboxylic acid vinyl esters with 3 to 20 carbon atoms and if appropriate other ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomers, which are copolymerizable if appropriate, in amounts of 10 to 99% by weight, based on the graft polymer, onto a polyurethane graft base by grafting polymerization initiated by free radicals, and if appropriate subsequently partly or completely hydrolyzing the vinyl ester units and if appropriate other hydrolyzable monomer units in the grafted-on polymer radicals of the graft polymers by hydrolysis and/or alcoholysis. Preferred vinyl esters to be grafted on are vinyl acetate and/or vinyl propionate and if appropriate vinyl versatate.

  • Patent number: 4481328
Abstract: A pulverulent polymer composition which is readily pourable, has a low tendency to form dust and has good stability on storage is composed of a mixture of a vinyl ester polymer and a small proportion of a hydrophobic silica. The composition is prepared by spray drying an aqueous vinyl ester polymer dispersion in the presence of a hydrophobic silica. The silica is preferably a product from the reaction of a hydrophilic silica with an organochlorosilane. The composition can be redispersed in water and the films produced from such dispersions are transparent; they are suitable for the production of paints, glues and adhesives.

  • Patent number: 4098746
Abstract: Aqueous dispersions of copolymers consisting of 50-99.9% by weight of a vinyl ester of a saturated monocarboxylic acid having from 1 - 18 carbon atoms, 0.1 - 15% by weight of an .alpha.-haloalkane carboxylic acid vinyl ester of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen, a halogen atom or an alkyl radical having 1 - 16 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 is hydrogen, a halogen atom or an alkyl radical having 1 - 13 carbon atom and X is a halogen atom, and 0 - 49.9% by weight of at least one other ethylenically unsaturated monomer which can be cross-linked while drying with 0.05% to 10% by weight calculated on the total mixture of an aminoplast resin, a polyamine, a polyamidoamine or a mixture of Formaldehyd and ammonia or an amine. The mixture of the dispersion and the cross-linking agent is stable, and cross-linking will start only when the mixture is applied to a substrate such as a fiber.
