Patent number: 10553209Abstract: A method includes outputting an alert corresponding to an information item. In some implementations, the alert is a sound. In some implementations, the alert is ambiguous (e.g., the sound indicates several possible information items). The method further includes receiving a speech input after outputting the alert. The method further includes determining whether the speech input includes a request for information about the alert. The method further includes, in response to determining that the speech input includes a request for information about the alert, providing a first speech output including information about the alert.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2014Date of Patent: February 4, 2020Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Thomas R. Patent number: 10488207Abstract: A mobile device can obtain wireless network signal strength map data that indicates, for various nearby geographical regions, the wireless network signal strength in each such region. A mobile device can transmit that data to a vehicular navigation system responsible for automatically selecting a high-quality route of vehicular travel between a specified source and destination. The system can take the wireless network signal map data into account when selecting that route. When selecting from among multiple different routes of vehicular travel between a specified source and destination, the system may employ an algorithm that considers wireless network signal strengths along those routes, in addition to the other factors. Consequently, the system can select a longer route having better signal strength over a shorter route having worse signal strength. The system can present the selected route within a set of suggested routes, potentially along with reasons for each route's suggestion.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2017Date of Patent: November 26, 2019Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Swapnil R. Dave, Devrim Varoglu

Publication number: 20190347936Abstract: Electronic equipment in vehicles may transmit and receive wireless messages. Each wireless message that is transmitted by a transmitter may include information on the vehicle from which it is being transmitted, information on the location of the transmitter within the vehicle, and other vehicle status information. Receiving equipment in vehicles may be used to receive the transmitted messages. Received signal strength indicator information may be associated with the transmitted messages. Using the received signal strength indicator information and information on the locations of the transmitters within the vehicles in which the transmitters are installed, equipment in a receiving vehicle may determine locations for nearby vehicles. Alerts may be presented to a driver of a vehicle and other suitable actions may be taken based on the locations of nearby vehicles, vehicle type information, and other information regarding traffic in the vicinity of the driver.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 11, 2019Publication date: November 14, 2019Inventors: Devrim Varoglu, Ravisastry Parupudi

Patent number: 10447844Abstract: A processor-based personal electronic device (such as a smartphone) is programmed to automatically respond to data sent by various sensors from which the user's activity may be inferred. One or more alarms on the device may be temporarily disabled when sensor data indicates that the user is asleep. One or more of the sensors may be worn by the user and remote from the device. A wireless communication link may be used by the device to obtain remote sensor data. Data from on-board sensors in the device—such as motion sensors, location sensors, ambient light sensors, and the like—may also be used to deduce the user's current activity. User data (such as calendar entries) may also be used to determine likely user activity and set alarms accordingly. Biometric data from a second, nearby person may also be used to automatically select certain alarm modes on a first person's device.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2012Date of Patent: October 15, 2019Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Shannon M. Publication number: 20190228023Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for retrieving local information on a user device include detecting itinerary information stored by a first application on a user device, and identifying a travel destination based on the detected itinerary information. The travel destination is communicated to a second application executable on a user device, and the travel destination is stored in association with the second application. The second application is adapted to retrieve local information based on an identified geographic location, and local information for the travel destination is provided through the second application in response to a user interaction with the second application and based on a triggering threshold associated with the itinerary information.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 1, 2019Publication date: July 25, 2019Inventors: Devrim Varoglu, Swapnil R. Publication number: 20190050821Abstract: An event analysis engine on a user device may be configured to receive information representative of a user event and to determine a type of the event according to the received information. One or more tasks associated with the determined type of event may be identified. Each of the identified tasks may be associated with a reminder having a trigger condition that is a function of information specific to the task. The task-specific information may be retrieved and the reminders associated with the tasks may be displayed when a device condition matches a calculated trigger condition for the reminder. Each task may be identified as completed when a completion condition associated with the task is satisfied.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 2, 2018Publication date: February 14, 2019Inventors: Swapnil Dave, Devrim Varoglu

Publication number: 20180358015Abstract: An electronic device with one or more processors and memory includes a procedure for sharing information with a third party recipient. In some embodiments, the device receives a speech input from a first user, the speech input specifying a second user different from the first user, and an information item to be shared with the second user. In response to the speech input, the device initiates a background process during which a digital assistant searches for the information item and causes the information item to be sent to the second user without further review and instruction from the first user.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2018Publication date: December 13, 2018Inventors: Jesse R. CASH, Swapnil R. DAVE, Devrim VAROGLU

Patent number: 10154131Abstract: An instruction execution engine on a user device may be configured to receive an executable instruction assigned to one or more contacts or groups of contacts. A communication from the one or more contacts or groups may be detected. Upon detecting the communication, the engine may execute the executable instruction. This executing step may trigger a user reminder or data transfer to one or more third parties.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2013Date of Patent: December 11, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Gencer Cili, Devrim Varoglu

Patent number: 10129735Abstract: A processor-based personal electronic device (such as a smartphone) uses combinatorial logic to automatically adjust alarms, notifications, reminders, and the like based on data from device event histories, on-board sensors, user-entered data, and similar information. One particular representative embodiment comprises a process for automatically deleting an unneeded reminder. For example, a user may have a personal electronic device that is set to issue a reminder for a meeting in a certain place, on a certain date at a certain time. If location sensors detect that the user is already at the certain place on the certain date at (or reasonably before) the certain time, the now superfluous reminder is automatically cancelled.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2015Date of Patent: November 13, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Devrim Varoglu, Natalia Ziemianska, Ravisastry R. Publication number: 20180283878Abstract: Techniques are described for seamlessly transitioning from a map that displays out-of-doors elements to a map that displays indoor elements, in response to detecting a transition event. The transition event may be, for example, that a navigation system that is generating the out-of-doors map has moved to an indoors location. Techniques are also provided for navigating to a parking spot in a parking structure. Specifically, users may search for parking spots that satisfy specific criteria. The search for a parking spot that satisfies the criteria may be initiated at the time a trip begins, or may be automatically triggered by some event. For example, a search for available parking spots near a designated destination may be automatically initiated as a user comes within a predetermined distance of the designated destination.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 18, 2018Publication date: October 4, 2018Applicant: Apple Inc.Inventors: Devrim Varoglu, Monika Bansal, Swapnil R.
