  • Publication number: 20140062724
Abstract: Electronic equipment in vehicles may transmit and receive wireless messages. Each wireless message that is transmitted by a transmitter may include information on the vehicle from which it is being transmitted, information on the location of the transmitter within the vehicle, and other vehicle status information. Receiving equipment in vehicles may be used to receive the transmitted messages. Received signal strength indicator information may be associated with the transmitted messages. Using the received signal strength indicator information and information on the locations of the transmitters within the vehicles in which the transmitters are installed, equipment in a receiving vehicle may determine locations for nearby vehicles. Alerts may be presented to a driver of a vehicle and other suitable actions may be taken based on the locations of nearby vehicles, vehicle type information, and other information regarding traffic in the vicinity of the driver.

  • Publication number: 20140067454
Abstract: A scheduling application on a first device may be configured to identify multiple time periods that comply with a set of scheduling parameters for a proposed event. An invitation to the proposed event that includes the multiple time periods may then be sent to one or more second devices, where after users corresponding to the second devices may accept the invitation by selecting one or more of the multiple time periods. The selected one or more time periods from each of the second user devices may be sent to the first device and the event may be scheduled on each of the first and second devices according to a selected time.

  • Publication number: 20140066091
Abstract: Electronic equipment in a system may transmit and receive wireless advertisement messages. Each wireless message may include location information and may have an associated received signal strength indicator when received from transmitting equipment by receiving equipment. The transmitting equipment may be associated with stationary equipment such as equipment installed at a building, adjacent to a road, or in traffic control equipment or other traffic structures. The receiving electronic equipment may be mobile equipment such as a vehicle or mobile computing equipment such as a cellular telephone or portable computer. Satellite navigation system signals may be received by the receiving electronic equipment in addition to the wireless messages. The receiving electronic information can present alerts to a user based on a location determined using the wireless messages and the satellite navigation system signals.

  • Publication number: 20140058679
Abstract: Parameters of an electronic device may be evaluated in order to determine a probability of a particular wake status of a user of the device. The determined probabilities of a certain wake status based on the evaluated parameters may be combined to identify a combined wake status of the user. The identified wake status may be utilized to implement certain device functionality. The wake status can enable a user to suppress notifications during a particular wake status or to perform an action (such as generating a reminder) according to a particular wake status.

  • Publication number: 20140052872
Abstract: A system and methods for improved streaming of content. After streaming of a content item from a wireless device (e.g., a smart phone, a table computer) commences to a presentation device (e.g., a media receiver, a television), the presentation device determines that it can stream the content item from an alternative source, such as a web server, data server or other content repository residing on the Internet or other network. The presentation device initiates the alternative streaming and notifies the wireless device that it may stop streaming. The wireless device may continue to provide control inputs to allow a user to pause, play, fast forward or otherwise control the presentation, and may or may not present the content item locally. If the presentation device must cease streaming of the content item from the alternative source, it notifies the wireless device, which resumes streaming.

  • Publication number: 20140040420
Abstract: Systems and associated methods for providing a plurality of devices the same media content. A plurality of requests for media content may be received where each of the plurality of requests is received from a respective device. It may be determined whether the plurality of requests for media content are for the same media content. In response to determining that the plurality of requests are for the same media content, a single request for the media content may be generated. The media content may be received in response to the single request and the media content may be stored in a memory medium. The media content may be provided to each of the respective devices in response to the plurality of requests.

  • Publication number: 20140026223
Abstract: A method for recording between a first device and a second device includes, prior to establishing a connection for recording between the first and second devices, creating a list of trusted devices. Presence of the second device on the list indicates permission to record a communication between the first and second devices. The method further includes storing the list of trusted devices, wherein the list is accessible by the first device, establishing the connection for recording between the first and second devices, verifying by the first device that the second device is on the list of trusted second devices, and recording at least a portion of the communication between the first and second devices if indicated by a user of the first device without further input from a user of the second device.

  • Publication number: 20140003590
Abstract: A telephone number corresponding to an incoming telephone call may be utilized to obtain information associated with the incoming call. If it is determined that the telephone number does not match records stored on the device on which the call is received, a request may be sent from the receiving device to an external device to obtain information associated with the incoming call. The request may be directed to a remote contacts application, another device listed in a data store of the receiving device, or to the calling device itself. When a response is received, the information may be displayed or otherwise utilized by the receiving device.

  • Publication number: 20140004837
Abstract: A first device may be connected to a synchronization device to allow utilization of the first device through an interface of the synchronization device. The connection may be utilized to obtain contact information from the first device by the synchronization device. If it is determined that the contact information retrieved from the first device does not include desired contact information, the desired contact information may be retrieved from a second device. The contact information obtained from the second device may be utilized to initiate communication via the first device through an interface of the synchronization device.

  • Publication number: 20130344902
Abstract: A method for selecting an out of service (OOS) scan mode for a wireless communication device is provided. The method can include the wireless communication device detecting occurrence of an OOS condition; setting a displacement threshold in response to the OOS condition; determining a displacement magnitude indicative of a distance traveled by the wireless communication device during the OOS condition; determining whether the displacement magnitude exceeds the displacement threshold; using a first scan mode to scan for network coverage in an instance in which it is determined that the displacement magnitude exceeds the displacement threshold; and using a second scan mode to scan for network coverage in an instance in which it is determined that the displacement magnitude does not exceed the displacement threshold. The first scan mode can have a greater scan frequency than the second scan mode.

  • Publication number: 20130288649
Abstract: A telephone number is automatically adjusted in the context a business card or other telephone number exchange. The country code, area code, or other prefix portion is added, removed, or modified based on a location associated with the telephone number and/or a location associated with the recipient. In one example, a sending device looks up location information by contacting the service provider, using locally-stored information, or otherwise, and, based on this information, includes au appropriate prefix. The sending device can also use a location associated with the recipient in determining an appropriate prefix or adjusting a received prefix, for example, based on the recipient's own telephone number. Adjustments to telephone numbers can also be made by recipient devices, intermediary devices, and any other devices that may be involved in the exchange of telephone numbers, business card information, or related activities, and in other contexts as well.

  • Publication number: 20130217364
Abstract: A command is received at an operating system of a first mobile phone for displaying contact information of a remote user having a mobile phone number of a second mobile phone. In response to the command, a request is transmitted to a remote server from the first mobile phone over a cellular network requesting an operating status of the second mobile phone. The operating status of the second mobile phone is received from the remote server over the cellular network. The operating status of the second mobile phone is displayed on a display of the first mobile phone as a part of contact information of the remote user associated with the second mobile phone, where the operating status includes current locality of the second mobile phone.

  • Publication number: 20110241827
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system for automatically changing the operating mode of a wireless device are provided. A determination is made whether at least one state of the wireless device has changed. This determination is performed using at least one integrated device of the wireless device. A determination is made whether the change in the state of the wireless device indicates that the first operating mode should be changed. The operating mode is changed to a second operating mode of the wireless device in response to a determination that the change in the state of the wireless device indicates that the first operating mode should be changed. Changing to the second operating mode includes altering at least one wireless communication operation of the wireless device. Examples of the second operating mode may include, but is not limited to, an airplane mode, a train mode, a vehicle mode, an environmental condition mode; or a device-access mode.
