  • Patent number: 10995590
Abstract: The invention is a method of exploiting hydrocarbons within a sedimentary basin, by stratigraphic simulation coupled with a hydrologic model and a diagenetic model. A gridded representation of the basin, comprising at least a mineralogical composition and a porosity within each cell, is determined by means of a stratigraphic simulator for at least one time step. Then, at least one hydrologic zone is delimited using a hydrologic model, and at least one chemical composition of the fluids and a direction of circulation of the fluids are determined in each cell located in the zone. At least the chemical composition of the fluids, the mineralogical composition and the porosity are then updated in each cell of the gridded representation with a diagenetic model comprising a hydrologic flux balance, established using at least the directions of circulation of the fluids and from which a cell visiting order is determined for the fluids.

  • Patent number: 10724348
Abstract: Hydrocarbons are exploited within a sedimentary basin using a stratigraphic simulation coupled with a hydrologic model and a terrestrial organic matter accumulation model. The inorganic sediment distribution within the basin is determined with a stratigraphic simulator for at least one time step. Then, at least one unsaturated zone is delimited within the basin using a hydrologic model. At least one zone of terrestrial organic matter accumulation within the basin and an amount of terrestrial organic matter accumulated in this accumulation zone are determined by a model of the terrestrial organic matter accumulation as a function of the unsaturated zone thickness, of the unsaturated zone thickness stability and of the surface water flux defined for the time step considered.

  • Patent number: 9971061
Abstract: The invention is a method of developing a sedimentary basin wherein the distribution and the quality of the organic matter in the sedimentary basin are determined using stratigraphic modelling representing the evolution of the sedimentary basin. The method is based on the coupling of a stratigraphic model with an organic matter production, transport and degradation model. The sedimentary basin is then developed according to the distribution and the quality of the organic matter.

  • Patent number: 9514096
Abstract: The invention is a method of developing a sedimentary basin from a stratigraphic simulation of multilithologic filling accounting for fine sediment transport. The sedimentary basin is divided into geologic layers with each geologic layer being subdivided into a series of climatic layers. Each climatic layer is associated with at least one constant climatic parameter. A stratigraphic simulation is performed within each climatic layer using a stratigraphic model. The sediment transport in the continental domain and sediment bottom layer transport in the marine and lacustrine domains are modelled using nonlinear diffusion equations under maximum erosion rate constraint. Suspended sediment transport in the marine and lacustrine domain is modeled using an advection-diffusion equation accounting for a particle fall rate and of a marine and lacustrine current velocity.

  • Patent number: 7043367
Abstract: A method for forming a 2D or 3D diffusive type model allowing simulation of multilithologic filling of a sedimentary basin over geologic periods. The model is based on the numerical simulation of the evolution of a sedimentary basin, from the past to the present, in a series of time intervals. In each time interval, three major phenomena interact and are numerically modelled: basin deformation, sediment supply and transportation of these sediments in the deformed basin. To model sediment transportation, long-term permanent transportation (creeping, slow diffusion process, etc.), short-term transportation (due to rain and flood) and catastrophic transportation (notably due to cliff collapse) are taken into account using an exponential water velocity model.

  • Patent number: 5844799
Abstract: The invention relates to the creation of a numerical deterministic model of the diffusive type allowing 2D or 3D simulation of the filling of sedimentary basins by siliciclastic and carbonate sediments. A read only memory known data relative to the architecture of a basin and measuring data, well logs, seismic surveys, etc, a set of input data relative to the accomodation created by subsidence and eustasy, the deposit and the production of fluvial or marine sediments, and physical transport parameters such as diffusion coefficients of the various lithologies are created. This set of data is applied to a numerical model. The results that can be deduced therefrom concerning the geometry and the lithologies of the sedimentary units are compared with the measuring data, and the input data are processed stepwise by inversion. The model thus created allows the reconstruction of, for example, the volumetric partitioning, the distortion of the genetic units or the sedimentary geometries observed.
