  • Patent number: 9735846
Abstract: A base station for communicating with multiple groups of wireless communication devices is described. The base station includes a processor and executable instructions stored in memory that is in electronic communication with the processor. The base station determines a number of wireless communication devices. The base station also splits the number of wireless communication devices into groups. The base station further determines a precoding matrix for each group. The base station additionally transmits a beamformed signal to each group using the precoding matrix for each group.

  • Publication number: 20170230214
Abstract: Techniques are provided for constructing or determining a training sequence as a part of transmission preamble to minimize (or at least reduce) a peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) at a transmitting node. In one example, a long training field (LTF) sequence of a preamble is determined that combines a set of interpolating sequences with LTF tone values. The LTF tone values may cover at least a portion of bandwidth of a first size, with each of the LTF tone values repeated for different subcarriers. The phases of tones of the LTF sequence may be rotated per bandwidth of the first size and certain tones of the LTF sequence may have a stream of values at pilot locations. For example, the phases of tones of the LTF sequence may be rotated in an effort to reduce PAPR during a transmission of the LTF sequence.

  • Publication number: 20170195975
Abstract: Techniques and apparatus for controlling the transmit power of an uplink (UL) signal from a user terminal in a wireless communications system in an effort to achieve some target characteristic, such as a target carrier-to-interference (C/I) ratio, at an access point (AP) are provided. In this manner, such a user terminal may help avoid or compensate for imbalances in received radio frequency (RF) power between UL signals received from multiple user terminals by the AP. For example, the transmit power at each user terminal may be controlled in an effort to achieve a target post-processing C/I ratio of 28 dB per spatial stream in an effort to reduce large power imbalances and optimize throughput per user terminal. The user terminal and the AP may compose part of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication system utilizing spatial-division multiple access (SDMA) techniques.

  • Patent number: 9577728
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication. An access point (AP) may determine a single user bias for a wireless device based on a feedback signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and an SNR based on a modulation and coding scheme (MCS). The AP may also determine a multi-user SNR for the wireless device based on the feedback SNR, the single user bias, a multi user loss, and a group bias. The AP may then select an updated MCS based on the multi-user SNR. In some cases, the AP may transmit a reference signal to the wireless device and receive a compressed beamforming feedback report from the wireless device based on the reference signal. The feedback SNR may be based on the compressed beamforming feedback report. The AP may also maintain a blacklist of groups with channel correlation that satisfies a threshold, and refrain from scheduling those groups together.

  • Publication number: 20160197700
Abstract: Techniques for supporting communication over an extended range in a wireless network are disclosed. In one aspect, a station sends multiple messages of a given type for different operating modes. These messages can be detected by stations with different capabilities, which may avoid collisions between stations. In one design, a first station receives a Request-to-Send (RTS) message from a second station having data to send. The first station sends a first Clear-to-Send (CTS) message and also a second CTS message in response to the RTS message. The second CTS message has an extended range as compared to the first CTS message. The first station thereafter (i) receives data sent by the second station in response to the second CTS message and (ii) sends an acknowledgement having an extended range.
