  • Publication number: 20240167365
Abstract: A process for carbon capture and sequestration by injection of liquefied biomass in a subsurface formation having a porous medium. A carbon-containing biomass is transformed into a liquid bio-oil. A liquid bio-oil injection rate is determined based on viscosity of the liquid bio-oil, the in-situ formation pressure, the reservoir transmissibility of the subsurface formation, and/or the mobility of the in-situ reservoir fluids. The liquid bio-oil is injected into the subsurface formation via a wellbore in the subsurface formation at an injection pressure sufficient to cause fracturing of a portion of the subsurface formation proximate the wellbore, thereby sequestering carbon in the subsurface formation.

  • Publication number: 20180119000
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of treating a hydrocarbon containing formation comprising providing a hydrocarbon recovery composition to at least a portion of the hydrocarbon containing formation and allowing the hydrocarbon recovery composition to contact the formation wherein the hydrocarbon recovery composition comprises an alcohol alkoxy sulfate and an internal olefin sulfonate.

  • Publication number: 20170292355
Abstract: A process of recovering oil from an oil-bearing formation which process comprises injecting a surfactant containing enhanced oil recovery formulation into the formation via an injection well and recovering oil and optionally gas via a recovery well which process comprises determining the apparent viscosity of the enhanced oil recovery formulation at various ratios of enhanced oil recovery formulation to oil wherein the highest apparent viscosity is at most 4 times the lowest apparent viscosity measured.

  • Publication number: 20140352958
Abstract: A process for recovering oil from an oil-bearing formation is provided. A first oil recovery fluid is introduced into a formation through a first well for a first time period and oil is produced from a second well. A second oil recovery fluid different from the first oil recovery fluid is introduced into the formation through the second well for a second time period after the first time period, and oil is produced from a third well, where the second well is located on a fluid flow path extending between the first and third wells.

  • Publication number: 20140034307
Abstract: A method and a system for producing petroleum from a formation utilizing a sacrificial agent and a surfactant are provided. The sacrificial agent reduces the amount of surfactant required to enhance oil recovery from a petroleum-bearing formation. The sacrificial agent is provided in a sacrificial agent formulation comprising a sacrificial agent dispersed in a fluid. The sacrificial agent is selected from the group consisting of a compound comprising a single carboxylic acid, a single carboxylic acid derivative, or a single carboxylate salt, or a compound lacking a carboxylic acid group, a carboxylate group, a sulfonic acid group, or a sulfonate group that is a phenol, a sulphonamide, or a thiol, or a compound having a molecular weight of 1000 or less that comprises one or more hydroxyl groups. The sacrificial agent formulation is introduced into a petroleum-bearing formation followed by a surfactant and petroleum is produced therefrom.
