  • Patent number: 5551764
Abstract: A brake system for automotive vehicles with electric drive is operable by an actuating pedal and uses hydraulic friction brakes to augment the braking effect generated by the electric drive motors. The coaction of the drive motors with the hydraulic friction brakes is controlled by an electronic controller. In order to largely conform the pedal characteristics of the mentioned brake system to that of a standard passenger car, an actuating pedal (5) is in force-transmitting and travel-transmitting connection with a spring (8) exhibiting a predetermined characteristic curve, and the master brake cylinder (11), uncoupled from the actuating pedal (5), is operable by an electromagnet (9) which is responsive to the controller (70). If the master brake cylinder accommodates two pressure cheers, a single valve is arranged in or on the master cylinder housing, and acts as both a bypass valve and a differential-pressure valve.

  • Patent number: 5464079
Abstract: A two-tube shock absorber for automotive vehicles is furnished with a shock absorber valve positioned at the lower end of its power cylinder and comprising a pilot control stage, a main stage to adjust its "soft" characteristic curve which is desired for reasons of driving comfort, or a special characteristic curve out of a field of potential characteristic curves. According to the invention, in a lower range of piston speed the shock absorbing power is determined exclusively by the variable cross-sectional area of flow of the pilot control stage wherein the main stage remains closed. In an upper range of piston speed the shock absorbing power is determined by the variable flow cross-sectional areas both of the main stage and of the pilot control stage.

  • Patent number: 5400877
Abstract: A two-tube shock absorber for automotive vehicles is furnished with a shock absorber piston and an electromagnetically actuatable unidirectional shock absorber valve to adjust a "smooth" characteristic which is desired for enhancing driving comfort. The shock absorber valve is alternatively configurated in the shape of a single-stage, or a two-stage slide valve. The position of the slide depends on the hydraulic pressure differential which decreases above the shock absorber valve, the volumetric stream which flows through the shock absorber valve, and the actuating current of the electromagnetic actuating unit. The inventive shock absorber allows the selection of a special characteristic curve out of a family of potential characteristic curves. Simultaneously, the sensitivity of the shock absorber to errors of the electromagnetic actuation is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5015044
Abstract: A braking pressure regulating device, in particular an anti-lock control device for hydraulic brake systems of automotive vehicles, comprising a master cylinder and a pressure modulator for the variation of the hydraulic pressure in the wheel cylinders during the braking pressure control mode. The device is equipped with a motor-driven pump (8) for generating a hydraulic pressure and with an electronic control unit (5) for controlling the valves of the pressure modulator (2). During the braking pressure control mode, the working chambers (10, 15) of the master cylinder (16) are exposed to pump pressure. Caused by the pump pressure in the working chamber (10), the push rod piston (11) and thus the brake pedal (1) disadvantageously are returned into their basic position in prior-art devices. The present arrangement provides that the switching positions of the regulating valve incorporated in the push rod piston are shifted into the cylinder during the braking pressure control mode.

  • Patent number: 5007687
Abstract: An anti-skid-controlled hydraulic brake system is described where the pressure medium, bled off from the wheel brakes for the purpose of pressure control, is replaced from a storage reservoir. The pressure medium will be delivered by a pump to the wheel brakes, and also into the master brake cylinder. As a result, during brake slip control, the volume requirements of the wheel brakes partially are met from the master brake cylinder. Directly involved is a pedal pulsation. So as to attenuate the pulsation, a throttling unit is inserted into the line between the pump and the master brake cylinder. A simple embodiment includes an orifice inserted between the pump and master brake cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4786118
Abstract: In a traction slip-controlled brake system for automotive vehicles, comprising an auxiliary pressure source and a pedal-operated brake valve through which pressure fluid from the auxiliary pressure source can be applied to the wheel brakes. A first valve switchable from a locking position into a passage position is switched into a pressure fluid conduit leading from the auxiliary pressure source to the wheel brakes of the one motor vehicle axle, and a second valve is switched into the brake conduit connecting the wheel brakes of the said motor vehicle axle to the brake valve. The said second valve can switch over from a passage position into a locking position. Moreover, a check valve is provided in the line section connecting the first valve to the wheel brakes of the one motor vehicle axle, with the said check valve precluding a flow back of pressure from the wheel brakes to the first valve.

  • Patent number: 4729611
Abstract: A vehicular hydraulic brake system with an anti-locking arrangement, wherein first valve devices (10, 16, 17, 20, 27, 28, 29, 30) are interposed between a master cylinder (3) and brake-actuating member (11, 12, 13, 14) which valve allow interruption of the supply of pressure fluid to the brake-actuating members (11, 12, 13, 14) and to removal of pressure fluid from brake-actuating members (11, 12, 13, 14). The first valve devices (10, 16, 17, 20, 27, 28, 29, 30) are controllable by a slip-monitoring electronics (18) as a function of the wheel rotational behavior, and provision is made of a device for ensuring availability of a minimum stroke of the master cylinder (3) as a reserve.

  • Patent number: 4702531
Abstract: For the control of a brake-slip controlled brake system the brake pedal force assisted by auxiliary force is transmitted onto a master cylinder (10, 10', 33) and from said onto the wheel brake cylinders via several pressure fluid paths that are adapted to be closed independently of one another. The wheel rotational behavior and the vehicle velocity will be measured with sensors (S1 through S4), the signals will be logically combined, and therefrom control signals will be generated for electromagnetically actuatable directional control valves (15, 16, 17, 19, 35, 36, 37, 42, 43, 52). During control action, the pedal force (F) that is directed to the master cylinder and assisted by auxiliary force will be compensated temporarily by an opposed force, as a result whereof the pressure rise in the master cylinder will be retarded or pressure will even be decreased.

  • Patent number: 4658939
Abstract: For the control of a brake unit for automotive vehicles, electric signals are generated dependent on the operation of the brake pedal. The signals are processed in an electronic circuit (8) and logically linked to sensor signals containing information on the brake power, the braking effect and/or on the rotational behavior of the individual wheels. Electrically actuatable wheel brakes (1, 2, 3, 4, 32, 33) equipped with an electric drive (M) are controlled by the generated signals. Through a second brake system, brake power is transmitted by the brake pedal (5, 5') either simultaneously or upon overcoming a threshold value to the wheels of one axle, preferably to the front wheels, i.e. front right, front left wheels (VR, VL), the brake power becoming, however, effective exclusively in the event of a fault or a failure of the electrical brake system or of the electric power supply.

  • Patent number: 4632467
Abstract: In a brake-slip controlled brake system for automotive vehicles, each one front wheel and one rear wheel are assigned to one joint braking pressure control channel (6, 8; 7, 9). Sensors (S.sub.1 -S.sub.4) for determining the wheel rotational behavior are disposed at all wheels. After their electronic combination and processing, the sensor signals serve to govern braking pressure modulators, e.g. solenoid switching valves (6-9).In the presence of sufficient friction of the front wheels (V.sub.R, V.sub.L), brake slip control is dependent on the rotational behavior of the front wheels. In the event of too low friction, brake slip control is switched over to the rear wheels (H.sub.R, H.sub.L), preferably to the rear wheel having least deceleration which thereby takes the lead as regards the control of the further braking pressure variation.

  • Patent number: 4600243
Abstract: In a hydraulic motor vehicle servo brake comprising a tandem master cylinder (11), a brake valve (17) is provided which upon actuation through the brake pedal (16) applies, in controlled manner, pressure medium supplied by a hydraulic pump (18) connected to an intake reservoir (27) to the first master piston (24) and to a brake circuit (III) directly, to provide there a controlled pressure. A wheel slip brake control system at an initial slip of one or more motor vehicle wheels, will reduce automatically the brake force on the motor vehicle wheels to a value just sufficient to turn the wheels. Two switch valves (21, 21') to which the controlled pressure is applied are normally closed and open upon a beginning slip of one or several motor vehicle wheels to apply the controlled pressure to the master cylinder (11) from where the pressure medium is passed by way of two check valves (23, 123) to the pressure chambers located behind the master pistons (24, 80).

  • Patent number: 4555144
Abstract: In the braking system of a motor vehicle, a hydraulically or electromagnetically actuatable valve is inserted into the return line to control and monitor hydraulic brake slip control devices supplied with energy from an external source. This valve opens or closes the return passage of hydraulic fluid from pressure reducing valves of static brake circuits in dependence upon the dynamic pressure developing in the booster chamber of brake valve network or in the prechamber of the master cylinder upon application of the brake or upon start of the brake slip control. Pressure reduction in the static brake circuits for preventing a wheel lock-up will thereby be avoided, if in the event of a control action no dynamic pressure develops in the booster chamber or in the prechamber on account of a defect.

  • Patent number: 4523791
Abstract: To monitor and control hydraulic brake slip control devices supplied with energy from an external source and intended for use on motor vehicles equipped with several brake circuits, a check is kept on the fluid level in the reservoir holding the hydraulic fluid and on the pressure in the chambers supplied with the external energy. When the fluid level drops, which is detected by a reservoir level warning device, or when the pressure drops causing pressure warning switches to respond, the brake slip control will be only partially deactivated initially by halting the reduction in pressure in the static brake circuits and inhibiting the dynamic fluid flow into the static brake circuits. The dynamic brake circuit will continue to allow a controlled deceleration of the connected wheels. The partial deactivation will be initiated immediately or with a time delay or only if the error signals continue to be present beyond a predetermined period of time.

  • Patent number: 4521061
Abstract: The hydraulic brake system with slip control comprises a master cylinder piston for operating a wheel brake, in which hydraulic medium tapped from the wheel brake during slip control will be supplied to the wheel brake from an auxiliary pressure source via a master cylinder gasket acting as check valve. The operating stroke of the master cylinder piston is limited by pressurization of a positioning piston through which a master cylinder piston rod is passed in a sealed manner and which is guided axially displaceable in a sealed manner in a housing. In order to prevent an abrupt movement of the positioning piston upon pressurization the positioning piston is constructed as a stepped piston whose smaller diameter is sealed with respect to the housing and having a piston step which in combination with the seal between the smaller diameter portion of the positioning piston and the housing annular chamber with a volume which is dependent on the pedal travel.
