Abstract: o-Hydroxyphenyl-s-triazines are described which contain at least two alkoxyphenyl substituents. They have the formula (1). The compounds according to the invention are suitable as stabilizers for textile fiber materials, in particular polyester fiber materials, and for organic polymers. Furthermore, they are suitable for use as sunscreens in cosmetic preparations.

Abstract: The present invention relates to new compounds which are useful as ultraviolet absorbing agents (UVAs) and as fluorescent whitening agents (FWAs), and to a method of improving the sun protection factor (SPF) of textile fibre material, especially cotton, polyamide and wool, treated with the new compounds and with certain known compounds.

Abstract: A process for inhibiting the re-absorption of migrating dyes in the wash liquor comprises introducing into a wash liquor containing a peroxide-containing detergent, from 0.5 to 150 mg, per liter of wash liquor, of one or more manganese compounds having the formula (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6) or (7) as defined in the specification. The manganese compounds do not exhaust at all on to cotton, polyamide or polyester fibres so that the compounds cannot lead to fibre discolouration problems.

Abstract: New compounds having the formula ##STR1## in which m is 1 or 2; when m is 1, A is a residue selected from those of the formulae ##STR2## and, when m is 2, A is a residue of the formula ##STR3## B is --O--, --NH-- or --SO.sub.2 --, and D is as defined herein, are useful as ultraviolet absorbing agents (UVAs) and a method of improving the sun protection factor of textile fibre material by treating the material with the new compounds.

Abstract: Novel dihydrotriazine compounds corresponding to formula (2') ##STR1## wherein R'.sub.1, R'.sub.2 and R'.sub.3 are each independently of one another hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkoxy or --C.tbd.N, with the proviso that R'.sub.1, R.sub.'2 and R'.sub.3 are not simultaneously hydrogen. The above dihydrotriazines are useful as starting compounds for the preparation of UV absorbers.

Abstract: There is provided a stable, concentrated fabric rinse composition comprising 0.3 to 10, preferably 0.3 to 3% by weight of a fluorescent whitening agent which is compatible with a fabric care ingredient, preferably a cationic, amphoteric or anionic fluorescent whitening agent, based on the total weight of the composition, and optionally a fabric care ingredient, preferably a fabric softener, a stain release or stain repellant ingredient or a water-proofing agent, the remainder being substantially water. The fabric rinse composition is preferably a fabric softener composition comprising 5 to 25, preferably 10 to 20% by weight of a cationic fabric softening agent and 0.3 to 10, preferably 0.3 to 3% by weight of a cationic, amphoteric or anionic fluorescent whitening agent, each based on the total weight of the composition, the remainder being substantially water.

Abstract: Sterically hindered phenols of formula (1) are disclosed. These antioxidants are suitable for enhancing the thermal and photochemical stability of undyed and dyed polyamide fibre materials. They are distinguished by superior exhaustion which is almost independent of the pH.

Abstract: A process is described for the photochemical and thermal stabilisation of undyed and dyed polyester fibre materials, which comprises treating said materials with a compound of formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each independently of the other C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl. Dyeings and prints of superior lightfastness and sublimation fastness on polyester and cellulose acetate are obtained by this process.

Abstract: A textile treatment composition which comprises; a textile binding agent which forms a chemical bond with the outer layer of the textile according to the formula (Ia): ##STR1## and, a barrier agent which forms a chemical bond with the textile binding agent and which increases the surface tension of the textile. Methods for treating textiles with the treatment composition, and kits comprising the components are also provided.

Abstract: The invention relates to a simple, one-step process for the preparation of triazines of formula ##STR1## which comprises reacting the benzonitrile of formula (I) ##STR2## with the benzonitrile of formula (II) ##STR3## in the temperature range from 180.degree. to 260.degree. C., in which formulae above R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are as defined in claim 1.The compounds prepared by this process find utility as UV absorbers or as starting materials for the preparation of UV absorbers.

Abstract: A simple process for the preparation of a triazine of formula (1) is described, which comprises converting a dihydrotriazine of formula (2) with a reducing agent to a 1,3,5-triazine of formula (1).The triazines obtained by the novel process are suitable UV absorbers for organic materials, in particular for polyester fiber materials, or suitable starting materials for the preparation of UV absorbers.
