Publication number: 20150186488Abstract: Asynchronous replication of an original data set, at a first location, as a replicated data set, with provision for secure delete operations. A snapshot utility performs a first asynchronous replication operation on an initial version of the original data set to make an initial version of the replicated data set. Some data is subsequently securely deleted from the initial version of the original data set. This secure delete operation is also performed on the initial version of the replicated data set before the next asynchronous replication takes place. In this way, the deletion will be secure (that is, with overwrite) in the replicated data set.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 27, 2013Publication date: July 2, 2015Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Dietmar Fischer, Mukti Jain, Sandeep R. Patent number: 8997798Abstract: A refrigerant line for carrying a mixture of refrigerant and lubrication oil. The line includes an inner casing made of a material impermeable to the refrigerant/oil mixture, an outer casing made of a material that is highly permeable to the refrigerant in its gaseous state, and an intermediate layer between the inner and outer casings made of a material that is high permeable to the gaseous refrigerant but that is able to retain the admixed oil. In this way, any oil contained in a refrigerant/oil mixture leaking through the inner casing is retained by the intermediate layer, while the refrigerant gas is allowed to escape through the outer two layers. The intermediate layer may retain the oil by absorption, by adsorption, or by binding of the oil.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2012Date of Patent: April 7, 2015Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Dietmar Fischer, Markus Markowitz, Lambertus Wilhelmus Schmitz

Patent number: 8850834Abstract: An air conditioning method is provided. The method comprises when a refrigerant circuit is in operation and a temperature of an evaporator of the refrigerant circuit is lower than a temperature of a heat exchanger of a heating circuit, transferring heat from the heat exchanger to air passing through the heat exchanger, and when the refrigerant circuit is not in operation and the temperature of the evaporator is higher than the temperature of the heat exchanger, transferring heat from the air passing through the heat exchanger to the heat exchanger. In this way, the heat exchanger functions to augment the cooling capabilities of the evaporator.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 2011Date of Patent: October 7, 2014Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Markus Markowitz, Dietmar Fischer

Publication number: 20140025261Abstract: A vehicle has front and rear seats and an air conditioning system. There is an auxiliary control accessible from the rear seat for adjusting the air conditioning system. A rear entry door has a child locked state and a child unlocked state. There is a lock control element accessible from the front seat for setting the child locked state. The lock control element is coupled to the air conditioning system for selectably defeating the auxiliary control. Thus, the activation by a driver/parent of a rear-door child protection door lock system is also used for locking out child access to a rear air conditioning unit.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 10, 2013Publication date: January 23, 2014Inventors: Walter Mayer, Dietmar Fischer, Markus Markowitz

Publication number: 20140017635Abstract: A device for treating skin, the gums, a tooth, or an internal organ by a laser pulse source for generating laser pulses with a pulse duration which is preferably in the femtosecond range, and an optical path for directing the laser pulses from the laser pulse source for the surface of the skin, gums, tooth or internal organ. The laser pulses are directed onto the surface of the skin, gums, tooth or the internal organ in such a way that the pulses are focused in the skin, in the gums, in the tooth or in the internal organ and cause a laser-induced optical breakdown below the surface of the respective skin, gums, tooth or internal organ, whereat the laser pulses have a larger cross-sectional area at the surface of the skin, of the gums, the tooth or of the internal organ than at the location of the laser-induced optical breakdown.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 13, 2012Publication date: January 16, 2014Applicant: GME GERMAN MEDICAL ENGINEERING GMBHInventor: Dietmar Fischer

Patent number: 8103621Abstract: One aspect of the present invention provides an operation for recovering lost space and maintaining data consistency in a storage environment by providing a two-way orphan reconciliation method for extremely large file systems, such as a Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) system which manages billions of files. This highly scalable and parallelizable orphan identification process may be used in a HSM controlled environment to enable the execution of a two-way file orphan check. In one embodiment, this orphan check identifies file system client orphans and server object orphans in a single pass by comparing a queue containing a list of migrated files on a storage repository server with a queue containing a list of stub files on a file system. If the queue elements do not match, a file system orphan or server object orphan can appropriately be identified.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 2008Date of Patent: January 24, 2012Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Carsten Brixius, Dietmar Fischer, Wayne C. Patent number: 8055862Abstract: Performing a backup of a stub object located on a file system managed by a hierarchical storage manager configured to migrate data objects from the file system to a migration storage pool. The stub object includes information for recalling a migrated data object and is configured to determine whether a backup copy of the migrated data object is stored in a backup storage pool if the backup is performed in an incremental backup operation. The backup further includes directing the hierarchical storage manager to recall the migrated data object to the file system if the backup copy of the migrated data object is not stored in the backup storage pool or if the backup is performed in a selective backup operation. The backup additionally includes storing a backup copy of the migrated data object in the backup storage pool if the migrated data object is recalled.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2011Date of Patent: November 8, 2011Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Stefan Bender, Dietmar Fischer, Douglas S. Publication number: 20110183596Abstract: A control device for a climate control system of a motor vehicle has a temperature control for selecting the temperature of the ventilation air supplied by the system. The temperature control is operatively connected with a switch controlling an additional operating function of the climate control system, such that actuation of the temperature control to a demist temperature position actuates the additional operating function to a windshield demist mode. The demist temperature position may advantageously be the full-hot position. The windshield demist mode may include setting an air recirculation function to off, setting an air conditioning function to full cold, setting a blower speed function to maximum output, setting an air distribution function to direct a majority of ventilation air toward a vehicle windshield, and/or setting a rear window heat/defrost function to heat a rear window.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 25, 2011Publication date: July 28, 2011Applicant: FORD GLOBAL TECHNOLOGIES, LLCInventors: Dietmar Fischer, Stefan Becker, Stefan Wolter, Joern Grabke, Andreas Ostendorf, Eero Laansoo
