  • Patent number: 5619373
Abstract: An optical system for a Head Mounted Display for a virtual reality system that employs a single high-resolution display to generate separate right-eye and left-eye images for presentation to a user. The display projects a single image onto an array of adjacent lenses that serve to magnify it, and to project the image onto an optically distant diffuser screen. The diffuser screen, which increases the angular dispersion of the image, is in close proximity to a columnar array of microprisms. The microprism beam splitter serves to split the single image into separate right-eye and left-eye component images, and to direct each component image to its respective eyepiece at an off-axis angle. The optical system further includes two separate eyepieces, each including Fresnel lens/prisms that redeflect their respective images onto optical axes which are parallel to, but laterally displaced from the original, central optical axis.

  • Patent number: 5497465
Abstract: MIMD and pipeline processing is executed by entering data and control signals into processing chips in the form of optical signals, and entering multi-bit information (data and control signals) in parallel and at high speed on the basis of non-coherence of light beams. The efficiency of MIMD processing function has been improved by expanding data transfer buses between processors and output buses in place of data and control signal input buses that have become unnecessary. A processing chip for receiving optical signals consists of a large number of cells dedicated for vector computations, and/or a large number of cells dedicated for vector computations and/or cells dedicated for arithmetic and logical computations. A processing chip for wide applications ranging from vector computations to logical computations by employing a construction combining both processors.

  • Patent number: 4321470
Abstract: An electron flood exposure apparatus is disclosed which is comprised of an electron gun for providing an electron beam; a dispersing means for converting the electron beam into an electron flood; a post dispersion collimation and acceleration grid; and a target holder for holding a microlithographic resist which is to be exposed by the flood of electrons after collimation and acceleration by the acceleration grid.

  • Patent number: 4308337
Abstract: An improved method for replicating a spiral groove pattern. The pattern is recorded in a photoresist layer which is then developed to reproduce the pattern in the photoresist layer. The pattern is transferred to a metal layer and formed in the surface of a plastic substrate. The improvement comprises the additional steps of uniformly irradiating the photoresist layer and removing the irradiated photoresist surface layer.

  • Patent number: 4120567
Abstract: Liquid crystal mixtures of liquid crystalline esters, biphenyls and terphenyls have wide useful temperature ranges, fast response times and a small index of refraction anisotropy which can be employed in liquid crystal cells having improved viewing angles.

  • Patent number: 3967883
Abstract: For the purpose of controlling the alignment of the molecules of a liquid crystal material, one or more inside surfaces of the device enclosure is coated with successive slant evaporated layers. In one embodiment, the first or bottom layer is deposited at a comparatively high angle of deposition relative to the substrate surface, and the second or covering layer is deposited at a comparatively low deposition angle and at right angles to the direction of deposition of the first layer. In another embodiment, the two layers are interchanged. In both embodiments, the upper layer is extremely thin in comparison with the bottom layer.
