  • Publication number: 20100086092
Abstract: The time required for the receiving device to synchronize to a desired timeslot is reduced. In operation, a transmitting device selects a synchronization pattern associated with the desired timeslot that is at least mutually exclusive from synchronization patterns associated with other timeslots on the same frequency in the system. Once selected, the transmitting device transmits a burst embedding the synchronization pattern that was selected, where appropriate. If the receiving device detects the synchronization pattern, it immediately synchronizes with the timeslot with confidence that it is synchronizing to the desired timeslot.

  • Publication number: 20090303923
Abstract: A system and method for interrupting a transmitting device during a call. In the system, calls are transmitted from a first device on a communication channel as a series of channel frames. At predetermined times during the transmission, the transmitting device is configured to drop channel frames, resulting in open channel frame periods where the transmitting device is not transmitting on the communication channel. During these open channel frame periods, the transmitting device is also configured to switch to a receiving mode. Other devices in the system are capable of switching into a transmitting mode during the open channel frame periods and, when applicable, sending an interrupt request on the communication channel to the transmitting device in order to request access to the channel.

  • Publication number: 20090175257
Abstract: A method and device dynamically changes preamble duration of a message. A message is transmitted over a forward channel to a target device, wherein the message includes a preamble of a predetermined time duration. A reverse channel is monitored for a confirmation message from the target device. The transmission of the preamble is stopped before expiration of the predetermined time duration upon receiving the confirmation message over the reverse channel.

  • Patent number: 7489675
Abstract: A method for indicating padding in a digital mobile radio is disclosed. The method comprises receiving a packet comprising a header and a defined length blocks portion. The defined length blocks portion comprises payload and a padding portion. The padding portion comprises padding and a payload pad count field. The method further indicates by a pad field in the header to examine the payload pad count field to determine an amount of padding for the padding portion of the defined length blocks portion. The method further indicates an amount of padding for the padding portion in the payload pad count field.

  • Publication number: 20080291853
Abstract: A system and method for pausing communications from a transmitting radio for a certain period of time in order to allow transmission of other messages. When a first radio determines that a message needs to be transmitted either to a second radio or the transmitting radio, the first radio determines whether there are any available forward channels to transmit the call. If no forward channel is available, the first radio determines a period of time required to transmit the message and sends, on a reverse channel, a “request to pause” signal to the transmitting radio identifying that period of time. Upon receiving the “request to pause” signal, the transmitting radio ceases transmission on the forward channel for the specified period of time, during which time the first radio transmits the message.

  • Publication number: 20080159199
Abstract: A system and method for managing forward channel access using a reverse channel in a wireless communication system is disclosed. A repeater receives requests on a reverse channel to access a forward channel. Each request includes a priority. The repeater selects a request based upon the priority. The repeater then allows access to the forward channel for a transmission based upon the selected request.

  • Publication number: 20070206533
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for interrupting a transmitting subscriber where the transmitting subscriber communicates on a forward channel of a wireless communications system while listening to a reverse channel for reverse channel signaling. The transmitting subscriber receives reverse channel signaling on the reverse channel from a second subscriber, wherein the message is received either directly from the second subscriber or through at least one base radio and terminates the communication on the forward channel in response to the received reverse channel signaling.
