  • Patent number: 6059219
Abstract: Winding device for winding material webs into winding rolls and process for winding material webs. The winding device includes a winding bed composed of at least two carrying rolls, including at least one driven roll, a roll support device having a core retainer and being positioned adjacent to at least one of the two carrying rolls and outside of the winding bed, and a winding roll adapted to be centrally supported by the core retainer. The process includes cutting a plurality of partial webs from a main web, and concurrently winding at least one of the partial webs into a first winding roll in accordance with a carrying roll principle and at least another one of the partial webs into a second winding roll in accordance with the support roll principle.

  • Patent number: 6019306
Abstract: Roll winding device that includes an unwinding station and a winding station and method for winding at least one winding roll. At least one of the unwinding station and the winding station includes a pivotable rotational axis adapted to pivot between a substantially vertical orientation and a substantially horizontal orientation. The method includes substantially horizontally orienting a rotational axis of at least one of the at least one winding roll and the jumbo roll, pivoting the rotational axis, and substantially vertically orienting the rotational axis.

  • Patent number: 6012673
Abstract: Winding device and method for producing a web roll from a material web. The winding device includes a core being adapted to form a web roll, a core holder device, a core drive, a central roll, and a press roll arrangement. The press roll arrangement includes a web tension compensation roll and a mating roll positioned to contact the core at least at a start of winding. The method includes positioning a core in the core holding device, forming a nip between the core and the central roll, positioning a press roll arrangement against the core opposite the central roll, guiding the material web through the nip, and winding the material web onto the core to form a web roll.

  • Patent number: 5988055
Abstract: Calender for a material web that includes a roll stack having at least four rolls that includes an upper and a lower roll, a frame, and bearing blocks associated with the at least four rolls. The bearing blocks are movably coupled to the frame. The calender also includes a load device coupled to at least one of upper bearing blocks associated with the upper roll and lower bearing blocks associated with the lower roll, and tensile rods extending along and positioned on opposite ends of the roll stack. The tensile rods include upper and lower ends, the upper ends being coupled to one of the upper bearing blocks and the load device, and the lower ends being coupled to one of the lower bearing blocks and the load device.

  • Patent number: 5816143
Abstract: A process and device for satining paper may include guiding a sheet through a roll gap defined by a heated hard roll and a soft roll having with a covering. A paper sheet width of the paper may be less than a width of a cylindrical part of each of the covering and the hard roll. The two rolls may be axially adjusted in relation to each other and in accordance with the paper sheet width. Further, the two rolls are positioned such that a first sheet edge is located adjacent a first end of the cylindrical part of the covering and a second sheet edge is located adjacent a second end of the cylindrical part of the hard roll. That is, the cylindrical parts of the covering and hard roll are positioned to be directly over each other, i.e., beyond the sheet edge, at most by a predetermined permissible edge width.

  • Patent number: 5816146
Abstract: A calender for satining paper through roll gap formed between a heated hard roll and a soft roller having an elastic covering. Overheating of an edge region of the covering, i.e., the portion not covered by the paper to be satined, may be prevented by utilizing continuous insulation belts. The insulation belt may reduce the transmission of heat from the surface of the hard roll to the elastic covering, at least in the roller gap.

  • Patent number: 5613307
Abstract: A jacket with a thermally insulating layer partially surrounds, at a small spacing, a heatable roll which serves for the treatment of webs of material, in particular paper webs. Under production conditions the jacket reduces heat losses from the roll through convection and radiation to the environment. The jacket has a device which, with an interruption of production, ensures a forced convection at the heated roll for the cooling of the surface to a temperature level which is same or only insubstantially higher than in the production state. Several cooling nozzles are conceivable for the said apparatus which are secured to the jacket and direct a coolant onto the roll surface.
