Abstract: A speed monitoring device for measuring a rotational frequency or rotational speed of a main drive shaft of a passenger transportation system can include at least one rotational speed sensor having an input shaft, a pinion, and a tapping device arranged on a shaft casing surface of the main drive shaft of the passenger transportation system. Furthermore, there is also a bracket for attaching the rotational speed sensor and the pinion in a stationary position relative to an axis of rotation of the tapping device, the tapping device having a gearing which can be coupled to the pinion in a rotation-transmitting manner, and the pinion being rotatably mounted in the bracket at two bearing areas.
