  • Patent number: 7900655
Abstract: A method for repairing and reinforcing a pipeline includes covering a defect in a pipeline section with a composite wrap, isolating the wrap from the ambient environment, and applying a compressive force on the wrap so that the pressure on the wrap is substantially equal to the pipeline pressure. Isolating the wrap involves the use of a housing having a cavity that substantially conforms to the shape of the wrapped section. The cavity may contain a pressurized gas or liquid. Because the pressure acting on the surface of the wrap is at least substantially equal to the pressure of the pipeline section, the wrap cures as if the pipeline is at zero pressure. Once the wrap has effectively cured, the compressive force may be relieved and the housing removed. The composite is now under load and is immediately sharing load with the pipeline.

  • Patent number: 7398910
Abstract: A mechanical weldable fitting for use in tapping a pipe includes a first and second metal collar, each formed of attachable upper and lower semi-toroidal portions that when assembled on the pipe providing spaced-apart external cylindrical surfaces. Each collar having at least one internal circumferential sealing groove therein that receives a gasket formed about the pipe. A lower semi-tubular metal containment member is positioned on the external cylindrical surfaces of the collars. An upper semi-tubular metal containment member is positioned on the external cylindrical surfaces of the collars. The upper containment member having an integral upwardly extending tubular access portion affording passage for tapping the pipe. The upper and lower containment members are welded to each other and to the collars to fully encompass a portion of the pipe.

  • Patent number: 4819823
Abstract: A vacuum support for use with a safety pressure relief rupture member. A vacuum support disk includes a convex side and a concave side with the convex side being positioned against a concave side of the rupture disk which also includes convex and concave sides. A arc-shaped slit, centered with respect to the vacuum support disk, is formed therethrough and permits fluid communication between either side of the vacuum support disk. A pair of opposed substantially parallel disk edges define opposte sides of the slit. The edges are urged against one another when the pressure on the concave side of the vacuum support disk is lower than the pressure on the convex side of the rupture disk thereby supporting the rupture disk.
