  • Publication number: 20220323793
Abstract: The present invention provides strategies to use and control the delivery of ionizing radiation to carry out therapeutic and industrial irradiation treatments. The present invention uses partial pulse control, component selection, and/or component configuration strategies in order to accurately monitor and terminate irradiation. The strategies are particularly useful to control dosing in the high dose rate and short time scales associated with FLASH technology.

  • Patent number: 11285341
Abstract: The present invention provides electron beam therapies with improved feedback control that delivers controlled and adjustable doses of electron beam radiation to variable shallow depths with little radiation exposure to both nearby tissues and tissues below the target. In order to control radiation to accurately penetrate to shallow depths and to allow the radiation to be adjusted to other depth settings in very small or even continuous increments, the present invention senses a plurality of different electron beam characteristics and then uses these to derive a composite characteristic, or analog, of the electron beam energy. The composite analog provides a strong correlation to energy that allows this precision. In another aspect, the present invention relates to implementing this feedback control by adjusting power levels used to establish the electron beam.

  • Patent number: 8269197
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and systems for use of an electron beam system. The electron beam system may be used within a treatment center with very little radiation shielding. The electron beam system may be used in conjunction with low-z moderators that reduce the energy level of the electron beam without the need for complex or expensive energy control systems. The electron beam system may be used to treat skin cancer and dermatological patients in non-traditional treatment facilities, as well as invasive cancers, either in an unshielded operating room to deliver intraoperative radiation therapy (“IORT”) or in an unshielded room in the oncology department to deliver electron beam radiation treatment (“EB-RT”).
