  • Patent number: 4303642
Abstract: Stable latexes comprising polymers containing chlorpyrifos or chlorpyrifos-methyl insecticide are prepared by mixing the latex with the insecticide at temperatures of 40.degree. to less than 100.degree. C., with stirring. The polymer granules protect the dissolved insecticide from early leaching or decomposition and prolong the effect and soil penetration of the toxicant.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 7, 1980
Date of Patent: December 1, 1981
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Company
    Inventor: Donald A. Kangas
  • Patent number: 4011176
Abstract: A stable, aqueous composition comprising an electroconductive resin, e.g., poly (vinylbenzyl trimethyl ammonium chloride), and a latex of an organic polymer stabilized by cationic moiety is applied as a coating to a non-conductive substrate such as paper or a plastic film to provide an article having decreased surface electrical resistivity and increased resistance to organic solvents. Such compositions are particularly useful in the manufacture of electrographic printing papers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 31, 1975
Date of Patent: March 8, 1977
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Company
Inventors: Frank L. Saunders, Donald A. Kangas, Ralph E. Friedrich
  • Patent number: 3950296
Abstract: Fluid, stable compositions containing aqueous disperse systems of (1) anionizable material, e.g., an aqueous solution of an organic polymer having carboxylate functionality, and (2) a water-dispersible amphoteric polyelectrolyte, e.g., a copolymer of 2-aminoethyl methacrylate and methacrylic acid, reversibly coavervated by maintaining the pH of the composition at a value below the isoelectric point of the amphoteric polyelectrolyte and a value at which the disperse material contains anions. The resulting coacervate is readily redispersed by increasing the pH of the coacervate to a value above the isoelectric point of the polyelectrolyte. Such compositions are useful in warp sizing of yarns and in other coating applications.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 21, 1974
Date of Patent: April 13, 1976
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Company
Inventors: Donald A. Kangas, W. Robert Neuendorf
