  • Patent number: 6387271
Abstract: A method for removing iron-containing contaminants from condensate from a power generating plant includes passing the condensate through a plurality of pleated filter elements contained within a housing, including direct the condensate through a pleated hydrophilic film comprising ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. The invention is capable of removing fine particulate matter and provides long filtration cycles between backwashing.

  • Publication number: 20020005385
Abstract: Systems and methods for treating wastewater or source water are disclosed. Water is directed through a filter assembly having a filter medium and is irradiated by a radiation assembly. In preferred embodiments, the filter medium may be microporous or finer; the radiation assembly may be arranged to irradiate water upstream of the filter medium of the filter assembly; and/or the radiation assembly may be arranged to irradiate water upstream of the filter medium of the filter assembly.

  • Patent number: 5766486
Abstract: A hybrid filter system and a method for filtering process fluid utilizing a backwash containment vessel. Tube sheet assemblies designed to hold disposable or backwashable filter elements are utilized to secure either type of filter elements in the backwash containment vessel. The tube sheet assemblies are removably mounted in the backwash containment vessel, and may be easily swapped for a given filtering application. The hybrid filter system utilizes a backwash containment vessel in conjunction with either disposable filter elements or backwashable filter elements depending upon process flow parameters.

  • Patent number: 5628916
Abstract: A method for filtering edible oils utilizing a backwashable filter assembly. A filter system having at least two filter assemblies may be utilized to remove bleaching clay and/or nickel catalyst from oil being processed for human consumption. The filter assemblies may be connected in a series and tandem manner to provide continuous and uninterrupted filtering of the edible oil. Each filter assembly preferably comprises multiple, substantially cylindrical filter elements having a porous filter medium which may be formed from polyaramid fibers. The filter elements are designed to withstand the elevated temperatures used in edible oil processing and for ease of cleaning during backwashing.
