  • Patent number: 6823048
Abstract: Calling name presentation services are provided by maintaining a local cache of requested information. When a called destination is determined to subscribe to calling name presentation, the local cache is queried to determine if the calling number is in the local cache. If the calling number is in the local cache, information corresponding to the calling number is retrieved from the local cache. If the calling number is not in the local cache, a remote database is queried for the information. The information retrieved from the remote database is stored in the local cache. In either case, the name information is sent to the call destination. A Signaling System 7 architecture may be used to implement local caching.

  • Publication number: 20040141151
Abstract: An improved punctum plug is more easily visualized when positioned within a punctual canal of a recipient. The body of the plug features an outwardly exposed surface when properly positioned, and a substance causing at least the outwardly exposed surface to contrast with surrounding tissue, such that the use of the substance causes the plug to be more easily visualized than if the substance were not present. The substance, which may be disposed on the outwardly exposed surface or within the body of the plug, may include a saturated coloration, or may be phosphorescent, fluorescent or otherwise operative to reflect or re-radiate light to assist in visualization. For example, the substance may include an organic or inorganic phosphor or fluorescent material, reflective beads, quantum dots, a dye or pigment. Such reflection or re-radiation may occur at the same or different wavelength(s) compared to the illumination wavelength(s), whether or not either or both are within the visible part of the spectrum.

  • Publication number: 20040087302
Abstract: A method and system for providing transmission of a selected media program to a wireless handset includes a source provider, such as a wireless network or a wireless handset, for receiving a transmission from at least one media program provider. At least one wireless handset transmits a request selecting one of the media programs. • Patent number: 6678515
Abstract: A method and system for conditionally forwarding a call for use in a communication network including a switching center in communication with at least one alternative system, and a plurality of subscribers, each subscriber having at least one directory number. The method includes providing a service location register in communication with a switching center, the service location register operative to retrieve stored call termination parameters for each of the subscriber's directory numbers and call information for each incoming call to a directory number, the call termination parameters including call forwarding features. A busy or no answer condition is detected for a call to a directory number and the request is forwarded to the service location register for routing instructions. Service logic is applied to disconnect the call or route the call to at least one alternative system.

  • Patent number: 6618471
Abstract: A method and system for measuring the usage of advanced intelligent network (AIN) resources includes providing a call processing record (CPR) logic diagram for a service control point (SCP) in an AIN to follow for providing an AIN service for a call. The CPR logic diagram includes separate paths having functions to be performed by the SCP during the call. The processing times required by the SCP for performing the functions associated with the paths of the CPR logic diagram is then estimated. The estimated processing times are then associated with respective paths of the CPR logic diagram. The SCP is then monitored to determine which path the SCP follows during the call. The actual processing time expended by the SCP during the call is then determined as a function of the path followed by the SCP for the call.

  • Publication number: 20030092452
Abstract: A method and system for simultaneously sharing wireless communications among multiple wireless handsets deployed in a wireless network having at least one cell site associated therewith includes a first and second wireless handset for transmitting a request for the same wireless communication. The wireless network then assigns a first wireless receive channel to the first wireless handset and the second wireless handset and simultaneously transmits the requested wireless communication to the first and second wireless handsets for receipt by the first wireless receive channel. If the requested wireless communication originates from a source handset, and the first and second handsets are located in direct communication proximity to the source handset, the source handset itself negotiates the common wireless receive channel for receiving the requested wireless communication.

  • Publication number: 20020114437
Abstract: A method and system for providing preselected information services to a subscriber includes detection of an off-hook condition at a subscriber telephone line and determining the preselected information services for the subscriber. • Patent number: 6256379
Abstract: A method and system for conveying supervision information to a call processing system using an intelligent network is provided. A call originating at the call processing system is received by a network switch. The network switch sends a query to a service control point which returns a routing message to the network switch. The network switch routes the call and waits for supervision information corresponding to a request for subsequent information provided by the service control point. Upon receiving the supervision information at the network switch, the network switch informs the service control point of the supervision information. The service control point in turn notifies the call processing system of the supervision information. Advantageously, the interface need not have the ability to convey supervision information.

  • Patent number: 6014377
Abstract: A method and system for routing a call incoming to a Private Branch Exchange (PBX) network telephone number from outside of the PBX network based on a PBX subscriber's location includes routing the call to a wireline switch which detects predetermined PBX triggers. Also included is generating a query at the switch for receipt by the wireline service control point (SCP) upon detecting the PBX triggers. The query requests mobile registration status data which corresponds to the PBX number. Also included is routing the call from the switch to a PBX switch for delivery to a PBX handset corresponding to the PBX number, which is in response to the PBX's subscriber mobile registration data indicating that the PBX subscriber is not wireless registered. Further included is generating a mobile query at the SCP to a Home Location Register (HLR) of the wireless network in response to the mobile registration status data indicating that the subscriber is wireless registered.

  • Patent number: 5848141
Abstract: A system and method for creating a call processing record that receives a provisioning request including call data, a logic template identifier, and one or more data template identifiers. The logic template and the data templates are identified based on the logic template identifier and the data template identifiers. The templates are accessed and the call data is inserted into call variables in the templates to create a call processing record with multiple blocks.

  • Patent number: 5805688
Abstract: A system and method for automatically routing telephone calls to a subscriber selected from a group of subscribers having a common calling number. The system and method are directed for use in a local exchange portion of an Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN). A database in electrical communication with the system is operative to store a plurality of user calling numbers and corresponding location data as well as a unique destination number for each of the subscribers and corresponding unique location data. A service control point or adjunct processor in electrical communication with the database processes the call handling request signal to select one of the destination numbers to route the call to. The processing requires determining the user calling number from the call handling request signal, determining the user location data and comparing the user location data to the appropriate subscriber location data to select a corresponding destination number.

  • Patent number: 5329685
Abstract: A pneumatically-powered battering ram for striking objects quickly and effectively with an initial high striking velocity resulting in an increased peak force effective in breaking the target object. The battering ram includes an elongated hollow housing containing a mass to be propelled, preferably a piston, and a supply of compressed gas, preferably carbon dioxide disposed within the housing. A valve mechanism releases a portion of the compressed gas into a charge cavity located between the piston and the supply of compressed gas. A sear mechanism holds the piston in place against the pressure of the compressed gas in the charge cavity. When the battering ram is swung at an object such as a door, a trigger mechanism releases the sear mechanism which in turn releases the piston. The piston is then accelerated forward by the compressed gas charge. Consequently, as the ram reaches the door, so does the piston which is traveling at a much higher velocity than could be obtained solely by manual swinging.
