  • Patent number: 4486746
Abstract: This invention provides a simple system for simultaneous raster scan display of video and alpha-numeric data on a single screen with provision for periodic image refreshment. It includes means for encoding the electrical signals representing the spatial intensity distribution of the video signal and the alpha-numeric signal. The coded signals are stored in a single bit map memory at the desired addresses. For display, the information is simply read from the memory through a single digital-to-analog convertor.

  • Patent number: 4322672
Abstract: Electric motor control apparatus includes a variable-frequency oscillator 10, a counter 11 clocked by the oscillator, and signal generating means 12 arranged to generate two sinusoidal voltages in quadrature with one another. The two voltages are applied through separate amplifiers 22, 23 to separate stator windings 24, 26, of the motor, the stator windings being 90.degree. apart. Control means includes a bistable circuit 28 producing a signal lagging 45.degree. behind one sinusoidal voltage, and a phase sensitive detector 29 arranged to vary the frequency of the oscillator 10 to maintain a constant phase difference.

  • Patent number: 4313033
Abstract: Apparatus and method for processing sound as delta modulated digital data bits. A speaker console communicates with a listener console through a central switching unit. Tri-state generators within the central switching unit convert bipolar data modulated speaker data to tri-state logic which is then multiplexed onto a bus. The bus is sampled by a plurality of listener modules of a majority detector unit according to desired speaker combinations and a majority output is thereby determined for each time slot. A data generator modifies a bipolar delta modulated idle waveform according to the state of the idle waveform and the historical output of a listener module, incrementing and decrementing a carry register and a borrow register in the data generator to reflect storage, insertion or cancelling of majority "ones" or "zeros". The combining logic of the data generator enables the central switching unit to produce a combined output having the initial speaker data bit rate.

  • Patent number: 3999902
Abstract: An improved slant axis rotary mechanism including a housing defining an operating chamber having generally radially extending opposed side walls, a shaft having an angularly offset portion journalled in the housing with the angularly offset portion within the chamber and a rotor within the chamber journalled on the angularly offset portion. The rotor includes a peripheral flange and each side of the flange has plural apices thereon, each carrying seals engaging a corresponding one of the side walls. The flange sides are slightly relieved only in the vicinity of each apex whereby sufficient clearance to prevent interference between the rotor and the housing during operation is achieved without significantly diminishing the compression ratio of the mechanism. A method of fabricating a rotor for a slant axis rotary mechanism is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 3989425
Abstract: A long-lived, unitized seal biasing spring assembly for use in rotary mechanisms such as rotary engines. The rotary mechanism with which the invention is to be used includes an operating chamber and a rotor within the chamber. At least one seal retaining groove is provided in the rotor and the seal is retained in the groove and extends partially out of the groove into sealing engagement with the chamber. A unitized, multi-leaf spring assembly made according to the invention is disposed in the groove and engages the seal to bias the seal into sealing engagement. Through the use of a unitized construction, assembly is facilitated while the use of a multi-leaf biasing spring arrangement dramatically reduces spring stress substantially prolonging the useful life thereof.

  • Patent number: 3975866
Abstract: Method and apparatus for machining an end surface for a housing for a slant axis rotary mechanism having a slant angle of .crclbar. and a rotor to shaft to housing timing ratio of S.sub.R /S.sub.S S.sub.H. The method includes the steps of providing a grinding tool within a fixed predetermined area, rotating a housing having an end surface to be machined about its central axis at a first rate of rotation R.sub.1 with the end surface engaged by the tool, and simultaneously rotating the housing about a second axis intersecting the central axis at an angle .crclbar. and at a second rate of rotation R.sub.2. The rates of rotation are chosen according to the following relations: R.sub.1 = n(S.sub.H - S.sub.R), and R.sub.2 = n(S.sub.S - S.sub.R). n Is an arbitrarily selected average angular velocity component. The disclosed apparatus performs the above method.
