  • Patent number: 5718624
Abstract: A support structure for storing a plurality of retainers each used with a body of eviscerated fowl having first and second legs with respective severed extremities. Each retainer is a substantially planar thin member mountable about the severed extremities. The thin member has an outer portion which defines an opening sized to receive the legs and a plurality of protuberances which extend inwardly from the outer portion into the opening for engaging the legs. The support structure comprises an elongate member having at least one longitudinally-extending bend connecting first and second longitudinally-extending sections with first and second edges so as to be substantially V-shaped in cross-section. The cross-section of the elongate member is sized to extend through the opening in the thin member. The bend in the elongate member is adapted to engage the outer portion of the thin member between adjacent protuberances.

  • Patent number: 5558222
Abstract: A tray for retaining poultry trusses. The tray includes at least one longitudinally extending truss support having a first support structure for supporting the U-shaped central portion of a truss, first and second outward extending surfaces extending outwardly from the first support structure, and second support structures extending outwardly from the outward extending surfaces for supporting the truss legs. The first and second support structures are optionally shaped and dimensioned to support a poultry truss with the shoulders of the truss spaced above the outward extending surfaces. The tray optionally includes stacking members for stacking the tray above a second tray with the first-mentioned tray selectively positioned in a nested arrangement with an empty tray and spaced above a filled tray.

  • Patent number: 5297985
Abstract: A clamp to retain thighs in eviscerated poultry from which the legs and feet have been removed in trussed condition is formed of wire having a central, U-shaped portion. On either side of the U-shaped portion, the wire is symmetric and extends in a backward stretch at about a 90.degree. angle and then bends in an outward stretch into a plane at an angle to both the backward stretch and the U-shaped portion. In the aforesaid plane, the wire extends in an outward-downward stretch, a convex stretch and then a concave stretch. Below the concave stretch is a straight stretch which terminates in a hook stretch at about a 90.degree. angle to the straight stretch. In use, the hook stretches are inserted inside the poultry carcass and their ends fit into the kidney cavities of the carcass. The straight stretches extend out of the tail opening of the carcass.

  • Patent number: 5169198
Abstract: A flat, open handle clips onto the end of a bag such as, for example, a shrink-wrap plastic bag, for frozen poultry or similar frozen food items. The handle has an elliptical ring at one end through which the end of the bag fits, and is provided with flexible converging fingers to retain the bag within the ring once it is inserted. The gripping portion of the handle which the fingers of the user grip is at the opposite end. Relatively flexible arms interconnect the gripping portion and the ring. To strengthen the handles and also to guide the bag toward the ring after its end has been inserted in the opening in the handle, guides are provided. In one form of the invention the guides extend inwardly from each arm, then bend obliquely to merge with the retaining fingers. In another form of the invention the guides are thin ears which have rounded inner edges.
