  • Patent number: 6154133
Abstract: An exit guard system automatically detects movement of a subject along an exit path in an unauthorized direction. A first video camera is positioned for video imaging movement of a subject along the path, while a second video camera images the subject for identification. Multiple video motion detectors operate in conjunction with the first video camera to determine direction of movement of a subject along the path. A CPU operates with the video motion detectors under an exit guard program to provide a watching mode, during which frames of the second video camera are continuously grabbed and saved. Audible and/or visual alarm signaling devices are operated by the CPU in an alarm mode in response to traffic of a subject in the unauthorized direction. A video monitor displays modes of operation of the system, and control devices allow operator selection and control of modes of operation of the system. Remote access to the system for control, monitoring or other purposes is provided by data modem feature.

  • Patent number: 4852888
Abstract: This invention relates to a target board for electrically sensing the penetration of darts and similar missiles that do not penetrate entirely through the target. More specifically, the invention relates to the construction of a target board that is adapted to be a sensing device to trigger an electrical scoring device not of this invention wherein an electrical trigger circuit is closed upon the impact of a pointed missile partially penetrating the target board. A unique feature of this invention is that it allows the use of regulation-grade metal-pointed throwing darts of the type preferred by serious dart players, with no modifications made to the dart to accommodate the triggering of the target board circuit.

  • Patent number: 4616836
Abstract: A seal having an exterior seal casing which includes a mounting surface and a seal lip body bonded to a portion of the casing, with the seal lip body comprising annular surfaces defining the air and oil side portions of a primary lip which meet along a generally cylindrical locus of measurable axial extent to provide a primary seal band with a plurality of spaced apart hydrodynamic pumping elements located on this seal band. An auxiliary lip is defined by a pair of frusto-conical surfaces meeting along a generally circular locus to provide an auxiliary or excluder lip portion. Said primary and secondary lips are spaced apart by an annular region of generally V-shaped cross-section, and the primary lip dimension or the pumping elements serve to maintain the primary lip seal band spaced just apart from an associated shaft, at least in the regions of the elements. Said auxiliary lip is of reduced diameter in relation to said seal band dimension in the relaxed condition of the seal.

  • Patent number: 4556225
Abstract: An oil or like fluid seal having a rigid exterior casing, a primary lip and an auxillary lip, with the primary or axially inner lip having a primary seal band surface which is generally cylindrical in its relaxed condition and which includes at least one hydrodynamic pumping element on its shaft contact surface, with the auxillary lip, in its relaxed condition, being of greater inside diameter than the primary lip, with the primary and secondary lips being spaced apart so as to define an intermediate annular groove of generally V-shaped cross-sections between them, with the pumping element acting to space portions of the primary lip apart from the associated shaft so as to provide initial venting of gas and vapors from the sealed cavity into the intermediate region and beneath the auxillary lip as cavity pressure increases so as avoid excessive pressure build up in the sealed region or sudden or erratic venting of such pressure.

  • Patent number: 4111186
Abstract: A solar energy collector having lower and top plates in spaced-apart parallel relationship and being laterally joined to develop a chamber, fluid inlet means provided at the normally upper end of said chamber, fluid outlet means provided at the normally lower end of said chamber, said lower plate having high heat absorptivity, said upper plate having heat transmissivity for short wave energy, a multiplicity of insulators provided within said chamber developing a multiplicity of tortuous flow paths from one end of said collector to the other, and means interengaging the upper and lower plates and the intervening insulators along lines of demarcation coextensive with said collector for developing discrete flow channels.
