Patent number: 11996190Abstract: The present disclosure relates to aggregating and sharing wellness data. The wellness data can be received by a user device from any number of sensors external or internal to the user device, from a user manually entering the wellness data, or from other users or entities. The user device can securely store the wellness data on the user device and transmit the wellness data to be stored on a remote database. A user of the device can share some or all of the wellness data with friends, relatives, caregivers, healthcare providers, or the like. The user device can further display a user's wellness data in an aggregated view of different types of wellness data. Wellness data of other users can also be viewed if authorizations from those users have been received.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2020Date of Patent: May 28, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Aroon Pahwa, Rebecca L. Publication number: 20240134430Abstract: Methods and systems for thermal management of data processing systems are disclosed. To improve the likelihood of computer implemented services being provided, the systems may thermally manage the temperatures of various components of the data processing system under a variety of operating conditions. To warm the components, the system may include fans usable to generate a circulation airflow and heaters to generate heat to warm the airflow. To cool the components, the system may include fans usable to generate a through enclosure airflow to bring in cool air and expel warm air. The fans may be managed via a control system that includes multiple management entities that may operate under different ranges of thermal conditions and may be capable of performing various analysis for ascertaining how to operate the fans and heaters to thermally manage the system.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 18, 2022Publication date: April 25, 2024Inventors: DONALD W. GERHART, TIMOTHY M. LAMBERT, JEFFREY LEIGHTON KENNEDY

Patent number: 10590789Abstract: A variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbocharger is disclosed. The VTG turbocharger may comprise a turbine section having a turbine wheel and plurality of guide vanes configured to regulate a flow of exhaust gases to the turbine wheel. The VTG turbocharger may further comprise an actuation pivot shaft (APS) configured to mediate actuation of opening and closing of the guide vanes, a bushing rotatably supporting the APS with a clearance therebetween, and a radial seal circumscribing the APS and inserted in a cavity of the bushing. The radial seal may form an interference fit with both an outer diameter of the APS and an inner diameter of the bushing to seal a leakage of the exhaust gases between the clearance between the APS and the bushing.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2017Date of Patent: March 17, 2020Assignee: BorgWarner Inc.Inventors: Donald M. Kennedy, Augustine Cavagnaro, Daniel VanSaun

Patent number: 10577958Abstract: A variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbocharger is disclosed. The VTG turbocharger may comprise a turbine section, a bearing section, and an actuation pivot shaft (APS) having a bearing side in the bearing section and a pressure side in the turbine section. The VTG turbocharger may further comprise a bushing surrounding the APS and extending from a first end at the pressure side to a second end at the bearing side. In addition, the VTG turbocharger may further comprise a face seal assembly including a cup spring and a composite ring seal circumscribing the APS at the pressure side, with the cup spring forming a face seal with the first end of the bushing. The face seal assembly may further include a spring circumscribing the APS at the bearing side and engaging the second end of the bushing.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2017Date of Patent: March 3, 2020Assignee: BorgWarner Inc.Inventor: Donald M. Patent number: 10024184Abstract: A Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG) turbine turbocharger comprises a turbine wheel in a housing, and a compressor wheel coupled to the turbine wheel with a main shaft. The turbocharger additionally includes a VTG assembly in the housing, an actuator outside the housing, and an actuation pivot shaft that extends through an opening of the housing and connects the VTG assembly to the actuator. A face seal assembly seals the opening, and includes an inner ring member rotationally fixed on the pivot shaft, a disc member, and a spring seal. The disc member includes a first face that forms a seal with a surface of the housing, and is rotationally fixed to, while being movable axially relative to, the inner ring member. The spring seal seals the inner ring member and the disc member, and applies a seating force against the disc member.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 2016Date of Patent: July 17, 2018Assignee: BorgWarner Inc.Inventor: Donald M.
