  • Patent number: 5341537
Abstract: A toothbrush whose tufts comprise three distinct groups of rows, with each row oriented transversely to the longitudinal axis of the head. The tufts of the first group are the shortest. The endmost tufts on each row of the second kind tilt laterally outwardly by about 12 degrees. The tufts of the third group are nearest the end of the head farthest from the handle and diverge from each other. In one embodiment, each tuft of the third kind tilts laterally at an angle of about 30 degrees and forwardly at about 14 degrees. In a first embodiment, each row of the first group comprises a single, wide tuft. In a second embodiment, each row of the first group has a plurality of laterally spaced round tufts. In a third embodiment, each row of the first group comprises a plurality of laterally spaced quadrangular tufts. All of the tufts may also be considered as defining four functional groups of tufts, with each of these four groups performing a specific function during brushing.

In a third embodiment, each row of the first kind comprises a plurality of laterally spaced rectangular tufts. All of the tufts may also be considered as defining four functional groups of tufts, with each of these four groups performing a specific function during brushing.

  • Patent number: 5139474
Abstract: A medical treatment device is disclosed which includes a medical treatment member and resilient securing members which adjust to conform to the particular dimensions of the portion of the patient's anatomy which is to be treated. The resilient securing members move outwardly away from the patient to conform to the size of the patient and ensure that the patient is centered within the treatment device. The medical treatment members are thus accurately positioned with respect to the patient. This is particularly important in treatments involving the application of magnetic fields to the patient. In addition, the disclosed medical device is relatively comfortable and can be worn by a patient for a relatively long period of time.

  • Patent number: 5046213
Abstract: A toothbrush comprising a head having a flat surface facing upwardly, the head joined to a handle. The tufts of bristles are arranged in two groups of rows, each row extending transversely of the head. The rows of the first and second groups alternate with each other along the longitudinal axis of the head. In the first group, the two laterally outermost tufts of each row tilt sidewise towards their respective nearest side of the head, this tilt being about 12 degrees. The middle tuft of each of the second group extends substantially vertically upwardly from the head. The laterally outermost tufts of the second group tilt laterally inwardly toward each other by about 8 degrees. The tufts define three functional groups of tufts. The tuft arrangement is such that the cleaning action is substantially independent of any particular brushing technique employed by the user.
