  • Patent number: 5954858
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for treating volatile hazardous air pollutant (VHAP) and volatile organic compound (VOC) waste products from gas streams. The system disclosed herein employs microporous hydrophobic membranes to remove VHAPs/VOCs from a gas stream into an oleophilic stripping fluid. The stripping fluid is directed into a separate biomembrane reactor wherein the VHAPs/VOCs are transferred across a second microporous hydrophobic membrane into an aqueous nutrient medium, where the extracted VHAPs/VOCs are degraded by microorganisms residing on the surface of the membrane. VHAPs/VOCs are degraded to carbon dioxide, water, and cell debris. The disclosed system uncouples biotreatment from waste generation, such that operation of the biotreatment unit can be continuous and optimized independently of plant work schedules or fluctuations in pollutant concentrations entering the system.

  • Patent number: 5473994
Abstract: A work station particularly adapted for use in a uniform open floor plan. The work station has a horizontal work surface having a front edge and a rear edge, a support member for supporting the horizontal work surface, a first trough located in an area beneath the horizontal work surface, and a second trough at a location displaced vertically below the first trough whereby the first and the second troughs define separate substantially horizontal passageways for the laying-in of cabling. In a further aspect, there is provided an office furniture system comprising a plurality of like work station modules aligned along a linearly extending course, each work station module occupying substantially the same area.

  • Patent number: 5362923
Abstract: The invention is a furniture system and method for distributing and managing cabling through a work space and assisting in facility space planning. The system includes a plurality of free-standing horizontal cable housing units which are aligned end to end, either in a straight line or at an angle. Each of these horizontal housing units includes a top, a bottom, and two sidewalls which together define a hollow chamber open at both ends. At least one of the sidewalls is easily demountable to provide access to the hollow chamber of the housing unit. The system further includes a first raceway for electrical power cabling mounted within the hollow chamber, and a second raceway for communication cabling mounted within the hollow chamber.

  • Patent number: 5255966
Abstract: Office furniture includes a number of individual furniture components all incorporating the same basic constructional details and ornamentation and which articles of furniture may be selectively associated with one another to form selective furniture ensembles which can provide a complete work area. One feature of the invention is to provide a furniture top which has notched edges which selectively receive a corresponding end of another article of furniture so as to interlock several articles of furniture into a furniture ensemble in a manner to resist relative movement. In addition, certain edges of furniture tops are notched and have a straight vertical edge to indicate a functional component such as a pull-out pedestal drawer or a cabinet area with edges of the tops being arcuately convexly downwardly curved for user interface. The individual components include desks, credenzas, organizers, returns and storage columns.

  • Patent number: 5064256
Abstract: A lateral file cabinet having at least two drawers and wherein the drawers are mounted for forward and outward tilting movement so as to provide access to the interior of each drawer. A principle feature of the file cabinet is that when one drawer is open, the other drawer of a two drawer file cabinet cannot be opened. An open lower drawer prevents a next upper drawer from being opened and an opened upper drawer prevents a next lower drawer from being opened.

  • Patent number: 4943890
Abstract: A solid state motor starter assembly having controlled semiconductors mounted between heat sink members. Electrical power to the assembly can be connected an disconnected by an electrically operated solenoid that actuates a movable contact into engagement with a stationary contact mounted on the incoming heat sink. To reduce the heat generated in the semiconductor device during steady state full voltage operation, a shunting current path is established between the adjacent heat sinks by an electrically operated solenoid which moves a movable contact bar to engage stationary contact surfaces mounted directly on the heat sinks. Electrically joining the incoming line heat sink to the outgoing heat sink provides a low resistance parallel current path around the semiconductor thereby reducing the heat generated in the assembly during full voltage operation. The above contacts and solenoids can be directly mounted to a heat sink assembly thereby providing the benefits of unitized construction.
