  • Patent number: 6322454
Abstract: An inflatable recreational device forms a climbing structure upon which users can climb and play. The device may take the form of a representation of a mountain having bulges and indentations which serve as hand and foot holds and various handles which also act as hand and foot holds. Users can climb up and down on the device or after climbing up can slide or jump down from the device. The device can be used in water or on a surface such as the ground. The device is a generally hollow container, bag, or bladder which is inflated. Straps are secured inside the device to extend at various angles between the base, sides, and top to shape and contour the device and change the natural rounded balloon shape the device would normally take upon inflation without the various interior straps.

  • Patent number: 4569515
Abstract: A structure for use as an exercise compartment and a method for playing a ball game therein is disclosed. The structure has a horizontal rebound surface which is supported above the ground and has means for enclosing the air space above said surface to form a cell, said cell being of a size suitable for enclosing at least one human using said surface as a springboard for exercise or for playing the ball game.

  • Patent number: 4474369
Abstract: A jogging track for exercising includes a resilient jogging surface that is suspended by springs between a pair of parallel frame members, to form a long, narrow path. The frame members between which the jogging track is suspended are supported by a number of reinforced tubular C-frame members that are formed of a horizontal bottom portion with vertical portions extending upward from the ends of the bottom portion, and a reinforcing bar attached between the two vertical portions. The surface of the jogging track may be either transversely or longitudinally inclined. The track may be formed into any of a number of arrangements, including both closed circuit tracks and open, linear tracks.

  • Patent number: 4470408
Abstract: The gravity traction and exercise apparatus is a tall framework cuboid structure having a series of hand grips along one side and a foot ladder ascending the opposite side. At the top of the structure are two foot binders, each of which is a padded inverted L-shaped plate. The vertical portions of the two foot binders oppose one another to grasp the user's ankles between them. One foot binder is mounted on an inclined track so it can be moved from a lower position near the other foot binder up the track to an upper position away from the other foot binder, opening a space between the two foot binders through which the user's feet may be inserted. Once the user's feet and ankles are between the foot binders the insteps of the user's feet are placed against the top of the movable foot binder and the user's weight is used to pull the movable foot binder down the track to press against his ankles and securely hold them between the two foot binders.

  • Patent number: 4245838
Abstract: An improved above ground landing pit particularly suitable for pole vaulting events is disclosed wherein the frontal portion of the pit includes an opening which surrounds the plant box having an angularly inclined back wall to accommodate the substantial flexure of the vaulting pole during the vault. The sidewalls of the pit are additionally provided with a tapered recess adjacent the lower edge thereof which permits the upper portion of each sidewall to extend in a cantilevered manner over the respective post standard thereby preventing injury to the athlete. Further, the present invention discloses a unique post standard which is exclusively anchored in position by the weight of the pit yet permits the post to be selectively positioned relative the length of the pit.

  • Patent number: 4215857
Abstract: An athlete's landing pit, particularly useful as a landing surface for high jumpers and pole-vaulters, is formed through the side-by-side arrangement of plural foam logs. The individual logs are shaped to provide air spaces within the foam structure to lend resilience to the landing surface. The individual logs of foam are not necessarily glued to each other but may be simply arranged side-by-side and placed within a fabric covering which is used to maintain the arrangement of the logs. The individual logs are therefore easily stored and replaceable individually. In addition, the individual logs within the landing pit structure may be placed at different locations each time the landing pit is constructed in order to avoid excessive wear on any individual log element.

  • Patent number: 4168061
Abstract: A portable long jump pit is disclosed which may be installed in a gymnasium, on top of a regular playing surface and used in conjunction with an elevated runway, or outdoors recessed into the ground surface such that the top is level with a runway. The pit includes a foam cushioning member which is held stationary relative the runway and a separate fabric cover over the cushioning member which is held in place by elastic cords. When the long jumper lands on this fabric member, it moves laterally on the top of the cushioning member, the elastic supports and the cushioning member absorbing the lateral momentum of the athlete. An optional enlarged landing pillow or bumper is placed at the end of the pit opposite the runway to protect the athlete from running beyond the pit surface after his jump. Numerous marking systems are disclosed for recording the landing position of the athlete.

  • Patent number: 4068739
Abstract: A disaster evacuation apparatus is disclosed which is particularly useful in the evacuation of victims caught in fires of multistoried buildings, airplane crashes, or similar disasters where the normal escape routes or fire exits have been made inaccessible due to the prevailing circumstances, forcing the victims to leap from high levels to their safety. This rescue unit comprises a large inflated enclosure mounted on a secondary inflated supporting base, both of which are fabricated from extremely lightweight flexible nylon material facilitating easy storage and transportation to the disaster site in the deflated pack-rolled state. The apparatus has the ability of being quickly inflated by its own air blower motor upon delivery to the disaster area. More importantly, the apparatus exhibits instant recovery to its operational configuration after each successive impact of falling bodies.

  • Patent number: 4057245
Abstract: A protective barrier for surrounding the upright posts used to support the horizontal bar in a pole-vaulting or high jump pit is disclosed. The device comprises a pair of foam members enclosed within a fabric covering positionable on top of the standard used to support the upright posts. The foam elements are connected together by strap members so that, with the release of one strap, one of the foam members may be hinged away from the other to permit adjustment of the position of the standards and posts.
