Abstract: Electro-optical glare protection device for protective glasses, protective helmets or protective masks comprising at least two optical sensors, which are equipped to detect the luminance of an object field and which have a different characteristic for the angle-dependent relative sensitivity (S0). In particular, at least a first sensor comprises a first photodiode (1) having a narrow detection angle ?1<45° and a second sensor comprises a second photodiode (2) with a wide detection angle ?2>45°. An electronic circuitry for controlling the optical transmittance of a liquid crystal cell comprises differential circuit which generates a differential current (i?) from photocurrents (i1, i2) generated by the respective photodiocies (1, 2), which differential current (i?) serves as a control signal for controlling the liquid crystal cell.
