Abstract: A channel merging method for a VOD system, said method comprises the steps of: in response to requests from a plurality of clients for a video program, establishing a root channel (S1) and at least one sub-channel (S11), said root channel (S1) being established according to a request from a client that makes the earliest request, each of said sub-channels (S11) being established in response to a request from a client that makes a later request; and monitoring variation of the number of the clients that are using each of said established channels, and maintaining the channel if the number of the clients using the monitored channel is not zero, and closing the channel if the number of the clients using the monitored channel becomes zero.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for key distribution in a conditional access system, assuming that the set of all user nodes which the system can accommodate is a complete set, and a subset is composed of all user nodes or part of user nodes. One method comprises: decomposing said subset into at least one secondary subset; assigning a different user key to each secondary subset, each said user key being transmitted to all users in a corresponding secondary subset; encrypting an entitlement key by using each said user key so as to generate a cipher text corresponding to each said secondary subset; and combining said cipher text to generate a media key control block and transmitting said media key control block to all users in said subset. Since a classification method of a binary tree and a multiple tree is used, the invention can save a lot of network resources.

An example method comprises: generating, at a user end, a demand short message, wherein the short message includes a User Identifier field, a Program Identifier field of the demanded video program and an Authentication field; sending to a program delivering end the short message; receiving the short message at the program delivering end; processing the received demand short message to extract the user identifier and authenticating the legality of the user; after authenticating the legality of the user successfully, sending program content corresponding to the program identifier from the program delivering end to the user end indicated by the user identifier; and receiving the demanded video program at the user end. By using a demand short message with an authentication function according to the present invention, a remote Video-on-Demand can be implemented conveniently and safely with low cost and strong security.

Abstract: Therapeutic oligonucleotides, including antisense oligonucleotides and siRNA, are modified with reactive chemical groups connected by flexible linker molecules. The modified oligonucleotides are capable of forming covalent bonds with mobile proteins, in particular with human serum albumin. While retaining biological activity, the resulting complex has enhanced cellular entry, significantly enhanced serum half-life, and reduced immune system stimulation when compared to unmodified oligonucleotides. The modified oligonucleotides overcome many problems associated with current antisense drugs. Modified oligonucleotides of the invention are administered as therapeutic agents, and hybridize to complementary sequences within targeted RNA molecules.

A method that can quantitatively calculate free drug concentrations of protease inhibitors in human plasma, as well as a method to calculate therapeutic amounts and dosage regimens. Furthermore, the present invention provides a method that can calculate the effect of plasma proteins on the antiviral activity (EC50 values) of protease inhibitors from their binding affinities to plasma proteins. The present invention provides as well a method that can evaluate the in vivo anti-HIV efficacy of PIs in human plasma.
