  • Patent number: 5002141
Abstract: A weighing in motion (WIM) apparatus and method in which scale platforms are provided exhibiting a high rigidity selected to achieve a relatively high natural frequency response characteristic. These platforms are combined with instrumentation wherein load cell derived signal outputs are digitized at a conversion or sampling rate effective to permit an identification of amplitude data correlative to vehicle weight. In particular, the sampling rate is selected so as to isolate and detect peak amplitude output of the system which is directly correlatable to truck weight. The invention derives from a recognition that, during the dynamics of movement of a vehicle such as a truck over the rigid scale platform structures, there occurs a decoupling of the mass of the truck from the scale permitting its response to the weight of the truck without significant loss of natural frequency bandwidth.

  • Patent number: 4253534
Abstract: A weight scale is made splash resistant from being splashed by liquids. Means is also disclosed for making the weight scale vapor resistant. The scale includes a housing on a column on a base and a force-to-electrical output transducer is mounted enclosed within the upper housing. A rod is enclosed within the column and is moved longitudinally therewithin by being connected to a lever system connected to the pan or platform on which the weight is received. The rod acts on the transducer and an electronic circuit provides an indication of the weight on an indicator also in the housing. Liquid splash-resistant means is positioned between the bottom of the base and the transducer within the housing for splash-resistant protection of this transducer. The foregoing abstract is merely a resume of one general application, is not a complete discussion of all principles of operation or applications, and is not to be construed as a limitation on the scope of the claimed subject matter.

  • Patent number: 4159521
Abstract: Improved electronic apparatus for weighing and computing the value from the weight and price per unit weight, for each of a plurality of successive weighing operations. An integrated circuit microcomputer is supplied with the article weight from a load cell and an analog-to-digital converter. The price per unit weight is supplied from a manual keyboard. The microcomputer includes as an arithmetic logic unit, data registers and sequence controller which is programmed to correct for scale errors, to check for no motion of the scale, to compensate the measured gross weight for any tare weight, to check various interlocks, and to compute an article value for each successive weighing. Null or zeroing and tare interlocks, checks, and safeguards are provided to reduce the possibility of fraud.

  • Patent number: 4004139
Abstract: An improved electronic apparatus for accurately weighing, computing a value and printing a label showing the weight, the price per unit weight and the computed value of each of a plurality of successive articles. The scale generates a predetermined number of significant weight digits which are used in computing values and at least one additional least significant weight digit. A digital indicator is provided for normally displaying the significant digits of the corrected net article weight obtained from the measured gross article weight less the zero correction factor and any tare weight. The displayed weight may be shifted and the correcting of errors inhibited to permit displaying the additional least significant weight digit while checking or manually aligning the zero of the uncorrected scale output.
