    Abstract: A proximity fuze (proximity fuse) comprising an ultra wideband (UWB) radar transmitter, a UWB radar receiver, an antenna, a timing system, and a signal processor. One embodiment includes an antenna with an annular conical radiation pattern. In another embodiment, a trigger delay is produced that is related to target detection range. In a further embodiment, multiple range shells are utilized to further discriminate target characteristics including velocity. A method is disclosed that utilizes target range, velocity, signal amplitude, and radar signal phase to identify the target and trigger the detonation. A proximity fuze system having a long storage life is disclosed comprising a proximity fuze element powered by a turbine generator and internal gas source.

    Abstract: In a transmitter (200) that includes a radio frequency (RF) power amplifier (218), a predistortion signal loop (234, 240, 209, 208), and a feedforward correction loop (242, 246, 248, 250, 252, 258, 261, 262), a method and apparatus is provided for correcting distortion introduced into the transmitter by the RF power amplifier. The predistortion signal loop determines a RF power amplifier characterization function that characterizes a relationship between a signal input into the RF power amplifier and the resulting signal output by the RF power amplifier. The predistortion signal loop also determines a predistorted input signal that is based on an input signal received from an information source and on the RF power amplifier characterization function, which predistorted input signal is input into the RF power and includes input signal modifications that are meant to compensate for the distortion introduced introduced by the RF power amplifier.

    Abstract: A radio frequency (RF) circuit (300) includes two parallel sections (310, 312) that are designed to function collectively through the use of a signal splitter/switching circuit (200) and a signal combiner (314). To optimize the performance of the RF circuit (300), a switching arrangement (214, 216, 218, 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, and 230) that is part of the signal splitter/switching circuit (200) is used to separate and isolate the two parallel sections (310, 312) for tuning purposes. After each parallel section (310, 312) has been individually tuned, the two parallel sections (310, 312) are recombined for joint operation.
