  • Patent number: 9631759
Abstract: A tube is surrounded by a ring attached to a sleeve. One end of the tube is attached to a pipe of the pipeline, one end of the sleeve is attached to another pipe of the pipe line. The tube and the ring and sleeve are movable axially relatively to one another when the pipe line expands or contracts linearly. A seal between the ring and the tube ensures fluid tightness of the joint.

  • Publication number: 20170082227
Abstract: A valve and coupling for joining pipe elements has a valve body captured in a central space defined by a plurality of coupling segments attached to one another end to end. The inner surface of the valve body defines a bore. A liner on the inner surface surrounds the bore and forms a seal with a valve closing member. Circumferentially arranged projections on the segments engage and center the valve body within the central space. The liner has lobes that extend axially in opposite directions. The lobes are compressed between the segments and the pipe elements to form a fluid tight seal when connection members are tightened to draw the segments toward the central space and into engagement with the pipe elements.

  • Publication number: 20160319968
Abstract: A mechanical coupling for joining pipe elements has segments joined end to end, each segment having a pocket of varying depth for receiving a ring gasket. The varying depth of the pocket is used to control the distortion of the ring gasket between a round shape and a non-round shape when the segments are arranged in spaced apart relation around the ring gasket, the spacing between the segments being sufficient to permit insertion of the pipe elements without disassembly of the coupling.

  • Patent number: 9435469
Abstract: A mechanical coupling for joining pipe elements has segments joined end to end, each segment having a pocket of varying depth for receiving a ring gasket. The varying depth of the pocket is used to control the distortion of the ring gasket between a round shape and a non-round shape when the segments are arranged in spaced apart relation around the ring gasket, the spacing between the segments being sufficient to permit insertion of the pipe elements without disassembly of the coupling. Notches in the projections which engage the pipe elements facilitate insertion of pipe elements and provide for a compact coupling design.

  • Publication number: 20160236256
Abstract: A method of forming circumferential grooves in pipe elements using opposed rollers to cold work the pipe elements determines the diameter of the groove while the pipe element is rotated between the rollers. A device for executing the method uses the instantaneous determinations of the groove depth in a feed-back loop to control the operation of the device and halt groove formation when the groove depth is within a specified tolerance.

  • Publication number: 20160223110
Abstract: A combination of roller tools is used to cold work a pipe element and impart a desired shape to the sidewall. The roller tools are movably mounted on a frame. Segments of the roller tools align with one another during operation. The roller tools are used in a method of roll forming wherein the sidewall of the pipe element is compressed between the rollers.

  • Patent number: 9388922
Abstract: A coupling for securing pipe elements together in end-to-end relation has segments joined at one end by a pivot attachment and at an opposite end by an adjustable connection member. The segments surround a central space which receives the pipe elements. A gripping body is captured between the segments. The segments have angularly oriented reaction surfaces. The gripping body has angularly oriented contact surfaces which interface with the reaction surfaces. When the segments are drawn toward each other by the connection members, interaction between the reaction surfaces and the contact surfaces forces the gripping body radially inwardly. Inwardly facing arcuate surfaces on the segments and the gripping body engage and retain the pipe elements. A method of inserting pipe elements into the coupling while the segments and the gripping body are supported on a seal is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9333543
Abstract: A pipe element has a circumferential shoulder at one end. The shoulder has an outer diameter greater than the outer diameter of the pipe element. A groove is positioned adjacent to the shoulder. The groove has a floor surface with an outer diameter less than the outer diameter of the pipe element. A bead is positioned contiguous with the groove. The bead has an apex with an outer diameter greater than the outer diameter of the pipe element. A combination of roller tools is used to cold work pipe elements and impart a desired shape to the sidewall in one method of manufacture. In another method, a spin forming tool is revolved in an orbit of increasing diameter within the pipe element captured within a die.

  • Publication number: 20160101454
Abstract: A roller set for roll forming pipe elements has an outer roller that engages the pipe element at three points to prevent teetering of the pipe element. Inner and outer rollers cooperate to form pipe elements having a projection engageable by keys of mechanical couplings, the projection extending beyond the outer surface of the pipe element and increasing the pressure and bending performance of the combination pipe elements and coupling.

  • Publication number: 20160076681
Abstract: A mechanical coupling for joining pipe elements end to end has a channel that receives a ring seal. The channel is defined by oppositely disposed sidewalls and the ring seal has lobes on opposite sides. The lobes have surfaces facing the side surfaces of the channel. When the ring seal is seated within the channel, each lobe surface contacts a respective side surface such that the lobes deform inwardly toward the center of the channel.

  • Publication number: 20160059287
Abstract: An inner roller used for roll forming pipe elements has a flange extending radially from a body. The flange has a surface divided into annular surface portions. The surface portions have orientation angles measured relatively to the axis of rotation of the inner roller. The orientation angles of surface portions farther from the body have greater orientation angles than the surface portions nearer to the body to mitigate adverse frictional effects between the pipe element and the flange during roll forming.

  • Patent number: 9267628
Abstract: A tamper resistant pipe coupling is formed of segments connected end to end using fasteners. The segments have bearing pads at each end, each bearing pad surrounded by a shield wall. The shield walls and the bearing pads form a well that receives the fasteners and provides defense against tampering. The well is filled with a potting material, such as refractory cement, to cover the fasteners and provide additional protection. Formations are provided on the bearing pad and shield wall to ensure positive mechanical engagement between the coupling and the potting layer. The shield wall and bearing pad may be integrally formed with the coupling segments or a separate component.
