Patent number: 8554425Abstract: A control system is provided to control the rate of pressure rise in a hydraulic lift and flotation system. When a hydraulic cylinder of the hydraulic lift and flotation system is to be adjusted, the pressure in the hydraulic lift and flotation system has to be increased to a predetermined pressure controlled by a relief valve before the hydraulic cylinder can be operated. The unload valve of the hydraulic lift and flotation system can be closed in a controlled or regulated manner in order to control the rate at which pressure rises in the hydraulic lift and flotation system.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2013Date of Patent: October 8, 2013Assignee: CNH America LLCInventors: Douglas R. Otto, Robert L. Fackler

Patent number: 7869922Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically controlling a header lift system of an agricultural harvesting machine, particularly a windrower, to put a header of the machine into a transport mode wherein the header is raised to an elevated transport position, under certain specific conditions. Such conditions can include, but are not limited to, the machine operating in a high-speed range, the header not operating, the speed of the machine being above a predetermined level, and the last inputted control command being a header raise command. When in the transport mode, the lift system can also be operated in a float mode. Further, the header lift system can be returned to a normal mode when certain criteria are present for doing so.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2006Date of Patent: January 11, 2011Assignee: CNH America LLCInventors: Douglas R. Otto, Sean P. Kopp, Robert L. Fackler

Patent number: 7168226Abstract: A hydraulic lift/flotation system for the header of a crop harvesting machine wherein each side of the header is supported by a single cylinder, which performs both the flotation and lift functions. For even lifting and flotation of an unbalanced header, each cylinder has its own control valve, pump, and accumulator. The operator sets the desired flotation force by actuating rocker switches; one switch position allows hydraulic oil to enter an accumulator to reduce header contact force with the ground. The other position allows oil to exit the accumulator to increase header contact force with the ground. To evenly float an unbalanced header, separate switches adjust each side independently. Once the flotation forces are set, the control valves will return to this preset flotation condition whenever float mode is selected, regardless of subsequent header lift and lower operations.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2004Date of Patent: January 30, 2007Assignee: CNH America LLCInventors: Kenneth W. McLean, Douglas R. Otto, David M. DeChristopher, Robert L. Fackler, Charles H. Hoffman, Donald L. Osborne, Stephen V. Paulin

Patent number: 6901729Abstract: A hydraulic lift/flotation system for the header of a crop harvesting machine wherein each side of the header is supported by a single cylinder, which performs both the flotation and lift functions. To accommodate unbalanced headers (center of gravity not centered between the lift arms), hydraulic oil is sent to the return side of the lift cylinder on the lighter side of the header, thus resulting in even raising, lowering and float.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2004Date of Patent: June 7, 2005Assignee: CNH America LLCInventors: Douglas R. Otto, Kenneth W. McLean
