  • Patent number: 5115219
Abstract: A superconducting magnetic energy storage apparatus comprising a cylindrical superconducting coil; a cylindrical coil containment vessel enclosing the coil and adapted to hold a liquid, such as liquefied helium; and a cylindrical vacuum vessel enclosing the coil containment vessel and located in a restraining structure having inner and outer circumferential walls and a floor; the apparatus being provided with horizontal compression members between (1) the coil and the coil containment vessel and (2) between the coil containment vessel and the vacuum vessel, compression bearing members between the vacuum vessel and the restraining structure inner and outer walls, vertical support members (1) between the coil bottom and the coil containment vessel bottom and (2) between the coil containment vessel bottom and the vacuum vessel bottom, and external supports between the vacuum vessel bottom and the restraining structure floor, whereby the loads developed by thermal and magnetic energy changes in the apparatus can

  • Patent number: 4318423
Abstract: Apparatus by which a fluid can be transported through a conduit from a first body to a second body joined together by a universal joint comprising first and second fluid swivels positioned about 90.degree. from each other and with each swivel located exterior of, and axially in line with an axis of, a universal joint having two definable axes of rotation, an elbow conduit exterior of the universal joint having its ends connected to the two swivels, a first conduit extending out from the first swivel and secured to the first body, and a second conduit extending out from the second swivel and secured to the second body.

  • Patent number: 4193368
Abstract: A quick-release mooring apparatus for a floating vessel comprising a substantially stationary structure anchored to the sea floor and projecting above sea level, a vessel mooring member attached at a first end above sea level to the stationary structure in a manner which permits the mooring member to rotate about vertical and horizontal axes passing through the point of attachment to the stationary structure, the second end of the mooring member comprising a vessel mooring yoke having a pair of spaced arms, one end of each of which is adapted to be releasably attached, by lifting the vessel mooring yoke, to opposite sides of the bow of a vessel for rotation about a horizontal axis, and the mooring member having sufficient buoyancy for the second end to float on the sea when unconnected to a vessel. The stationary structure can be a buoy anchored to the sea floor by lines, or it can be a tower supported by the sea floor.

  • Patent number: 4135543
Abstract: A hose storage and supply apparatus comprising a hose guide track having front and rear ends, the guide track having means on which a hose can move as it is paid out or is retracted, a hose on the guide track, a fluid coupling means joined to each end of the hose on the guide track for joining a fluid supply conduit thereto, and means operably connected to the hose to move it along the guide track from a retracted position to a paid out position and back to a retracted position.
