Patent number: 7140480Abstract: A clutch having a plurality of cam members between a cover and pressure plate to move outwardly under centrifugal force and cause the pressure plate to move axially to force a plurality of clutch plates into clutching engagement, a manual override mechanism to lock out the pressure plate to maintain the clutch plates in a disengaged position, and pressure limiting springs prevent shock loads from being imparted to the clutch plates when the plates are advanced into clutching engagement with one another. The clutch housing includes a cover which can be mounted either flush or inset in circumferentially spaced walls of the housing and held in place by a retaining ring inserted into slots in the side walls and is adaptable for use with any type of clutch with or without the manual override mechanism and pressure limiting springs.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2004Date of Patent: November 28, 2006Assignee: Drussel Wilfley Design, LLCInventors: Douglas W. Drussel, George Michael Wilfley

Patent number: 7014026Abstract: A centrifugal clutch for motorcycles having a cam-actuating mechanism to force a series of clutch plates into clutching engagement at a predetermined speed, a pressure limiting spring assembly limits the axial force transmitted to the clutch members at higher speeds so that the torque transmission characteristics of the clutch are similar to a manual clutch, and a manual override is capable of maintaining the clutch plates in the disengaged position at lower speeds as well as shifting the clutch members out of clutching engagement at higher speeds with relatively low exertion of manual or hand pressure.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2004Date of Patent: March 21, 2006Assignee: Drussel Wilfley Design, L.L.C.Inventors: Douglas W. Patent number: 6814208Abstract: A centrifugal clutch for motorcycles employs a cam-actuating mechanism having multiple rows of centrifugal force-responsive cam members of a selected density and size to force a series of clutch plates into clutching engagement over the shortest possible distance and least possible speed of rotation while assuring ease of positive engagement of the clutch members in response slight increases in speed of rotation. The cam-actuating mechanism can be employed with a manual override mechanism to manually control locking and release of the clutch members as well as utilizing a torque limiter to absorb shock loads without unduly increasing the size of the clutch so that it will readily fit into the space occupied by existing or standard clutch mechanisms.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2002Date of Patent: November 9, 2004Assignee: Drussel Wilfley Design, L.L.C.Inventors: Douglas W. Drussel, George Michael Wilfley

Patent number: 6705446Abstract: An automatic clutch for automotive and other applications employs a control rod to manually control engagement and disengagement of the clutch independently of its speed of rotation, and in one form of invention can be employed in manual start motorcycles to engage the clutch for bumpstarting purposes before the engine is up to speed, and in an alternate form a control rod can be employed in electrically started bikes to lock the clutch against engagement whether or not the engine is up to the speed required for automatic engagement of the clutch. The control rod may either extend through the transmission shaft from one end of the clutch housing or may extend through the opposite end of the clutch housing, and in certain applications the hereinbefore described control rods can be combined to selectively control bumpstarting to manually effect clutch engagement or as a locking mechanism to prevent clutch engagement.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2001Date of Patent: March 16, 2004Assignee: Drussel Wilfley Design, LLCInventors: Douglas W. Drussel, G. Michael Wilfley

Patent number: 5667356Abstract: Centrifugal pumps for handling acids or slurries incorporate a ball bearing assembly as the force-responsive governor to control opening and closing of a fluid path leading from the expeller region into a seal, the seals being composed of hard, low-friction sealing materials for handling acids and of resilient materials for handling slurries owing to the solids content in the slurries.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1996Date of Patent: September 16, 1997Assignee: A. R. Wilfley & Sons, Inc.Inventors: John D. Whittier, Douglas W. Drussel

Patent number: 5580215Abstract: An electromagnetic seal for a centrifugal pump controls movement of a valve member away from a normally closed position against a sealing surface at the entrance to a reservoir behind the expeller region of the pump, the valve member being controlled by a magnetizable clapper movable within a sealed enclosure toward and away from an electromagnetic coil which may be energized either by the drive motor of the pump or a self-contained generator in the pump driver assembly. Circulation of fluids between the impeller and expeller regions of the pump is enhanced by placement of vents in the impeller and a circumferential groove in the path of flow of fluid through the expeller to create increased turbulence and assist in flushing out foreign particles along with fluid in the expeller region when the pump is in operation. The effectiveness of this combination permits the employment of dry running secondary containment seals which do not require elaborate seal support systems.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 1995Date of Patent: December 3, 1996Assignee: A.
