  • Patent number: 6725498
Abstract: A combination cleaning solution recovery tank and air-liquid separator for use in a carpet extractor comprises a tank and a lid engaging the tank. The lid includes a top wall and a bottom wall connected by a circumferential outer wall to form a chamber therebetween. An interior wall extends between the top wall and the bottom wall dividing the chamber into a first plenum and a second plenum. The first plenum has an inlet for receiving liquid-laden working air and an exit in fluid communication with the tank. The second plenum has an inlet in fluid communication with the tank and an exit for discharging working air from the second plenum. A baffle assembly is removably mounted in said tank.

  • Patent number: 6314610
Abstract: A bag housing assembly for a vacuum cleaner includes a rear bag housing which forms a bag cavity and a bag door which releasably attaches to the rear bag housing for enclosing the bag cavity. One of the rear bag housing and bag door is formed of a semi-rigid flexible fabric material which is permeable to air and which is sufficiently rigid to retain a molded shape. The flexible fabric material is attached to a rigid frame member which allows the bag door to releasably attach to the rear bag housing.

  • Patent number: 6260233
Abstract: A hose and tool caddy removably mounts to an upright vacuum cleaner. The hose and tool caddy stores the vacuum cleaner hose and accessory tools, such as a dusting brush, furniture nozzle, extension wand and crevice tool, which are used for above-the-floor cleaning. When the upright vacuum cleaner is being used for floor care, the hose and tool caddy may be removed from the upright vacuum cleaner and hung-up. The hose and tool caddy includes a base and a guide member. The base is formed with a looped channel for receiving the hose, a pair of resilient C-clamps for supporting the dusting brush and furniture nozzle and a vertically extending channel for receiving the extension wand with the crevice tool stored therein. The upright vacuum cleaner includes a track member for slidably receiving the guide member when the hose and tool caddy is being mounted to the upright vacuum cleaner.

  • Patent number: 5961676
Abstract: A hard bag cleaner door is disclosed having air directing rib vanes integral with its inner surface. These vanes take the form of, alternately, angled J-shaped ribs and short straight interleaved ribs. All the ribs are stepped so that the flow passage for air moving along the interior side of the bag door diverges as more bag air is introduced to it so that it directs efficiently air flow to a lower disposed motor-fan section of an adjoining hard bag portion. In a second embodiment, an exhaust opening is formed in the hard bag cleaner door below the air directing rib vanes and is covered by a final filter and final filter door. The air moving along the interior side of the bag door is directed out the exhaust opening, through the final filter which filters small dust particles which may be present in the exhaust air and out vent openings formed in the final filter door.

  • Patent number: 5226527
Abstract: A switch actuator for an upright vacuum cleaner consists of two elongated rod sections adapted for interconnection by means of a barbed clevis at the end of one of the sections adapted for engaging a receptacle at the end of the other section. One of the sections is maintained within an upper handle portion and the other within a lower handle portion of the vacuum cleaner. As the two handle portions are interconnected, interconnection of the actuator rod sections is automatically effectuated. The actuator rod section maintained in the upper handle portion is also adapted to receive an actuator button which has a connector passing through a slot in the vacuum cleaner handle. The button remains external to the vacuum cleaner handle, while the connector portion thereof extends internally thereof and mates with one of the actuator rod sections.

  • Patent number: 5134750
Abstract: A cleaner suction nozzle is provided in which provisions are made for a nozzle height elevation arrangement and a hose conversion valve arrangement. The hose conversion valve arrangement works in conjunction with the nozzle height elevation arrangement so that the suction nozzle can be elevated from the floor to disengage the cleaner agitator and then hose conversion of the cleaner can occur almost simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 4845803
Abstract: A cleaner having a rectilinearly movable hand grip, movable along the axis of the cleaner handle, is provided with a switch actuator that can initiate action of a switch fixed relative to the handle and, therefore, not movable with the hand grip. The switch actuator includes a lost motion arrangement engageable over a switch button of the switch so that the switch actuator and switch remain in an engaged position independent of the axial location of the hand grip. The cleaner may be a power drive cleaner in which movement of the hand grip controls power driven movement of the cleaner. In this case, the hand grip and handle may have provision for placing the cleaner in a non-drive, neutral position.
