  • Patent number: 10505801
Abstract: Techniques for configuring and operating a network connected election voting system are provided. Voting devices are network connected to a voting system controller. Alerts are provided when a ballot becomes stranded on a voting device. The stranded ballots may be untransferrable ballots or interrupted ballots. A recovery mechanism is provided to obtain the data for untransferrable ballots. The alerts may be provided at a display on the voting device, controller or both.

  • Patent number: 10445966
Abstract: An electronic voting system is described that utilizes printed vote records (PVRs) in which a voter's vote selections are recorded in voter readable characters. Optical character recognition (OCR) techniques may then be utilized to scan the PVR to record the voter's selections. The OCR data is then utilized to generate the cast vote record. Thus, the electronic voting system directly interprets the voter selections from the PVR just as the voter sees the data. In this manner “what you see is what you get” printed vote record data is provided for a voter's viewing and that same data is used to generate the cast vote record.

  • Patent number: 10169943
Abstract: A voting system provides haptic feedback to a visually impaired voter to guide the voter. The haptic feedback may include vibration. The vibration may provide guidance by vibrating tactile written instructions, such as braille. The vibration may also provide guidance to the voter via the location of the vibration. A particular tactile instruction may be selectively highlighted at the appropriate time in the voting process and/or appropriate location on the voting device. In this manner, haptic guidance and cues are provided to a visually impaired voter. In one embodiment, the haptic feedback is provided by vibrating a relevant braille instruction at the relevant time during the voting process. In this manner touch sense guidance and cues are provided to a voter to emphasize what braille instructions are currently relevant to a voter and/or the location of such relevance.

  • Publication number: 20180018844
Abstract: A system for collecting and aggregating voting data from a plurality of voting locations and/or voting devices is provided. The system provides for transmission of election voting data from the voting locations/devices to the central election center, to speed the collection of voting data upon the close of polls. Data may be provided to a receiving host computing system at the central election center. Data from many individual data sources is aggregated in one database and/or one memory drive, providing a many-to-one aggregation of data. A highly configurable dashboard is provided so the officials may quickly determine progress of the voting process. This dashboard may be used to provide real-time data on status of voting location/device data transmission and the storage of that data at the receiving host computing system.

  • Publication number: 20180005474
Abstract: A local electronic voting network configured as a daisy chain network is provided. Each network device may include a switch for routing and propagating voting network communications. A TCP/IP protocol over Ethernet based connections may be used. Voting devices may include a relay configured such that in case of power down of a voting device the relay shunts the communications down the network. Multiple input/output ports may be provided on network devices and a physical port blocker is provided to block unused ports. A network controller may include a display screen which utilizes a graphical user interface to display status information regarding individual ones of the voting devices that are coupled to the voting network.

  • Publication number: 20170039792
Abstract: A technique for generating and utilizing improved electronic cast vote records is described. In one embodiment, electronic cast vote records are provided that include more than just ballot content data. For example, electronic cast vote records are provided that include process workflow and/or deployment related data in addition to the ballot content. In such an embodiment, the cast vote records may include both ballot content data and workflow and/or deployment related data. In another embodiment, the systems described herein allow for filtering, exporting, auditing, etc. electronic cast vote records according to workflow and/or deployment variable data in addition to ballot content data.
