Publication number: 20130314503Abstract: A vehicular vision system includes a forward facing camera module having a forward facing camera having forward field of view, and includes a rearward facing camera having a rearward field of view. The forward facing camera module includes an image processor, a decoder and an encoder. Image data captured by the rearward facing camera is fed to the decoder and an output of the decoder is fed to the image processor. The image processor is operable to process image data captured by the forward facing camera to at least detect objects in the forward field of view and is operable to process the decoder output to at least detect objects the rearward field of view. An image processor output is fed to the encoder and an encoder output is fed to a display that is viewable by a driver of the vehicle during a reversing maneuver of the vehicle.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 15, 2013Publication date: November 28, 2013Applicant: MAGNA ELECTRONICS INC.Inventors: Axel Nix, Joern Ihlenburg, Nazar F. Bally, Duane W. Gebauer

Patent number: 7872764Abstract: A predictive suspension system for a vehicle includes an imaging sensor, and energy source and a control. The imaging sensor is disposed at a vehicle and has a generally downward field of view, with the field of view encompassing an area forward of a tire of the vehicle. The energy source is operable to emit illumination in at least one linear pattern so that the linear pattern is projected onto a portion of the area forward of the tire of the vehicle that is encompassed by the field of view of the imaging sensor. The control processes image data captured by the imaging sensor and detects surface irregularities on a surface in front of the vehicle tire in response to the image processing.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2008Date of Patent: January 18, 2011Assignee: Magna Electronics Inc.Inventors: Michael J. Higgins-Luthman, Yuesheng Lu, Duane W. Gebauer

Publication number: 20090244361Abstract: A camera module (10) for a vision system of a vehicle includes a circuit element (12), a lens mounting element (14b, 14c), a lens assembly (14) and an outer shell or cover portion (16). The circuit element includes an imaging sensor and associated circuitry (12a). The lens assembly includes at least one optical element (14a) and the lens mounting element (14b, 14c) is attached to the circuit element (12) so as to provide an optical path through the optical element to the imaging sensor at the circuit element. The outer shell (16) is molded over and around the circuit element during a molding process to substantially encapsulate the circuit element within the outer shell. The module and method of making the module thus may substantially seal the circuit element within the overmolded outer shell to protect the circuit element from exposure to the elements.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 27, 2006Publication date: October 1, 2009Applicant: MAGNA ELECTRONICS INC.Inventors: Duane W. Gebauer, Joel S. Gibson, Shih-Che Huang, Hugh W. Ireland

Patent number: 5413072Abstract: A protective control box is disclosure for providing protection for a starter system and other components of equipment, such as vehicles, incorporating internal combustion engines. Improved starter protection apparatus and circuitry using frequency to voltage conversion disables a starter motor from starting the internal combustion engine when engine speed exceeds a pre-determined level. The starter cannot be re-actuated until and unless engine speed has fallen below a second lower pre-determined speed level. The protection box includes a lockout solenoid which in turn selectively locks out the main starter solenoid in accordance with the foregoing conditions. A wait-to-start lamp and associated comparator and latching circuitry is provided for actuating the wait lamp in response to initiation of glow plug controller pre-glow operation, and for subsequently extinguishing the lamp. Once extinguished, the lamp cannot be re-actuated until and unless the ignition has been toggled.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1993Date of Patent: May 9, 1995Assignee: Nartron CorporationInventors: Christian J. Andersen, Duane W. Gebauer, Ronald D. Ingraham
