Patent number: 8870742Abstract: An implantable restriction device can be configured to provide a restriction in a patient, for example as a function of the pressure of fluid. The implantable restriction device can include one or more sensors configured to sense a variety of parameters, such as pressure of the fluid within the implantable restriction device, pulse width, pulse amplitude, pulse count, pulse duration, or frequency, electrical characteristics, or other parameters. Data obtained by the one or more sensors (for example, the data representing pressure, pulse characteristics, and so on) may be communicated to a device located external to the patient, such as a data logger, using telemetry coils or other communicators. The data logger may store the data, and may communicate the data to a remote location via a network such as the Internet. A docking station may be provided to couple the data logger to a network and/or to recharge a cell in the data logger.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2008Date of Patent: October 28, 2014Assignee: Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc.Inventors: Daniel F. Dlugos, Jr., Peter Brockmeier, Matthew A. Berger, Randal T. Byrum, Kevin R. Doll, Gaspar M. Gayoso, Dustin R. Jensen, David T. Krumanaker, Amy L. Marcotte, Mark S. Ortiz, David N. Plescia, David C. Publication number: 20110282683Abstract: The present invention is directed to a computer-based weight loss system for supporting bariatric treatment of obesity that is accessible to both the patient and the medical practitioner. The system has a central server maintaining a library of information related to the treatment of obesity and a patient interface and a medical practitioner interface linked to the central server for uploading and downloading of information. The patient interface also provides access to information selected from the group consisting of bariatric care pathway, behavioral modification planning, fitness, preoperative diet, postoperative diet, monitoring of a gastric band, monitoring of a patient's weight, monitoring caloric intake and nutritional information. The uploaded information is processed by the central server and then made available to the medical practitioner and the patient.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 25, 2011Publication date: November 17, 2011Inventors: DUSTIN R. JENSEN, Kristin L. Jambor, Nitin K. Jain, Richard I. Lauf

Patent number: 7618365Abstract: A method of implanting a surgically implantable band, the method comprising the steps of providing a band with an elongated body member having a first end with a first latching member positioned thereon, and a second end with a second latching member positioned thereon. The first latching member has a suture tab extender extending therefrom. The suture tab extender has a suture attached thereto. The second end has a gripping section positioned thereon shaped and dimensioned to facilitate gripping as the gastric band extender is passed through the second latching member. The method further includes the step of positioning the band around an anatomical structure and latching the band around the structure by placing the suture tab extender through the second latching member and thereafter coupling the first and second latching members. The method further involves the step of removing the suture tab extender from the band.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2006Date of Patent: November 17, 2009Assignee: Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc.Inventors: Kristin L. Jambor, Jeffrey P. Wiley, Lauren S. Weaner, Dustin R. Jensen, Patrick J. Swindon, Christopher W. Widenhouse
