  • Patent number: 9351842
Abstract: Knee implant systems and methods for implantation or use in a knee joint, are disclosed. A knee implant system can include at femoral component having a femur-contacting surface and an opposing articulation surface, and proximal, distal, anterior and posterior portion. The femoral component can include a medial condyle and a lateral condyle, where each of the condyles define respective distal-most points and have substantially equal widths. The width of each of the condyles can define respective condyle midpoints, where the distal-most points can be located laterally from the midpoints. The femoral component can include a trochlear groove that can define a distal-most sulcus point located halfway between the distal-most point of the medial condyle and the distal-most point of the lateral condyle.

  • Publication number: 20150066150
Abstract: Methods are disclosed for designing a tibial implant to minimize cortical impingement of a keel or other fixation structure when the tibial implant is implanted in the tibia bone. The design of the keel or other fixation structure on the tibial baseplate can be based on determining a common area between defined cancellous regions of at least two tibia bones. Methods are disclosed for designing a femoral component having a stem extension such that the stem can be sufficiently placed in the diaphysis of the femur when the femoral component is implanted. The method includes determining a canal axis in a femur that creates adequate engagement between a reamer and the diaphysis of the femur.

  • Publication number: 20140257505
Abstract: An orthopaedic knee prosthesis includes a tibial bearing component with articular features which operate to protect adjacent soft tissues of the natural knee, promote and/or accommodate desired articulation with an abutting femoral component, and facilitate expedient and effective implantation by a surgeon.

  • Publication number: 20060184176
Abstract: A trialing assembly for use during knee replacement procedures to determine size and position of a tibial plate implant as well as the size and thickness of the articular surface prior to implantation of the implant. The trialing assembly includes a broaching plate having a tibia engaging bottom surface adapted for placement atop a tibia and an opposite top surface, the bottom and top surfaces extending between an anterior edge and a posterior edge of the broaching plate. The broaching plate includes an anterior rail and a posterior rail protruding superiorly from the top surface and extending along the anterior and posterior edges, respectively. A trialing plate is configured to removably fit atop the broaching plate between the anterior and posterior rails. The trialing plate includes an engagement member extending from a superior surface of the trialing plate and adapted to engage with an articular surface provisional.

  • Publication number: 20050209702
Abstract: A mobile bearing knee prosthesis apparatus includes a tibial plate. The tibial plate includes a medial lobe and a lateral lobe conjoined in a dividing plane. The apparatus further includes a tibio-femoral insert and a stud-like protuberance extending from the tibial plate into the tibio-femoral insert. The stud-like protuberance includes a protuberance sidewall positioned in the tibio-femoral insert. The protuberance sidewall is bisected by the dividing plane and includes a pair of opposing eccentric convex arcuate portions, and the tibio-femoral insert is moveable relative to the tibial plate about an axis medially disposed from the dividing plane. A mobile bearing knee prosthesis apparatus includes a tibial plate and a tibio-femoral insert coupled to the tibial plate. The tibio-femoral insert includes a generally posteriorly positioned chamfered superior surface and defines a generally posteriorly positioned generally U-shaped space bounded at least in part by the chamfered surface.
