Patent number: 6225587Abstract: A method and device for the electrostatic separation of chaff from grain. An nonconductive continuous belt moves a mixture of grain and chaff past an ionizing electrode, which imparts an electrical charge to the grain particles and the particles of chaff within the mixture.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1997Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Inventors: E. Cordell Lundahl, Brandon Eliason, Joe Hays, Jeff Stout, Robert Wagner, Mark Wangsgaard, Randall Wuthrich

Patent number: 5309702Abstract: Impact cutter teeth that cut and lift the crop to improve both cutting and transport of the crop are novel features of this invention. The novel construction of this tooth results in actions which reduce undesired recut characteristics present in impact cutters with prior art teeth.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1992Date of Patent: May 10, 1994Assignee: Lundahl Research, Inc.Inventors: E. Cordell Lundahl, Laurel H. Jensen

Patent number: 5305586Abstract: An auger cutter, windrower and conditioner for standing and downed crops such as hay, or forage harvester crops such as corn, sorghum and cereals including a cutter auger with cutting teeth attached to an auger flight and a conveyor auger to move the cut crop to a central area or to either side of the cutter to be discharged as a windrow or as a mass of material, or to be fed to a second crop processing device such as a forage harvester. An improved relationship of the cutting augers and the conveyor augers and height control mechanism to improve the cutting and transport of the crop.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1992Date of Patent: April 26, 1994Assignee: Lundahl Research, Inc.Inventors: E. Cordell Lundahl, Laurel H. Jensen

Patent number: 5005342Abstract: An auger cutter, windrower and conditioner for standing crops such as hay, a cutter and a feed mechanism for feeding forage harvesters crops such as corn and sorghum, including a cutter auger with cutting teeth attached to the auger flight and a conveyor auger to move the cut crop to a central area to be discharged as a window or as a mass of material to be fed to a second crop processing device such as a forage harvester.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1990Date of Patent: April 9, 1991Assignee: Ezra C. Lundahl, Inc.Inventors: E. Cordell Lundahl, Laurel H. Jensen
-
Patent number: 4951452Abstract: A hay baler including a trailer frame with a hitch for attachment to a prime mover and support wheels. A crop pick-up unit moves cut crop into a material storage area, from where it is moved into a bale chamber and is compacted by a compression unit and tied with twine before being discharged to ground from the rear of the trailer frame.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1989Date of Patent: August 28, 1990Assignee: Ezra C. Lundahl, Inc.Inventors: E. Cordell Lundahl, J. Gordon Wiser, Laurel H. Jensen, Ernie Vandenwijengeart
-
Patent number: 4896486Abstract: A threshing unit including a header having a stripping unit for stripping the grain from the stalks as the unit moves in the field. The threshing unit has height control to accurately position the stripping units at the heights of the heads of grain on the stalk. The grain head is positioned by air flow (for stripping) and the grains is carried into a cleaning unit and then into a combination re-thresher cleaner unit by air flow and centrifugal force. The cleaning is done by air flow and the transport of the grain to an attached or mobile container is accomplished by air flow.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1988Date of Patent: January 30, 1990Assignee: Lundahl Research, Inc.Inventors: E. Cordell Lundahl, Laurel H. Jensen

Patent number: 4738087Abstract: A harvester includes a mobile vehicle with a forward vertically adjustable header that includes a mechanism for stripping grain from a standing crop as the machine advances while leaving the stem of the crop attached to the soil. The stripping mechanism including a pair of axially transverse vertically offset brush-type rotors having randomly spaced radial bristles, the upper rotor being disposed slightly forwardly of the lower and being driven so that its lower surface moves rearwardly in close proximity to the rearwardly moving upper surface of the lower roller that is driven in the opposite direction from the first rotor. The grain heads on most of the standing crop is disposed between the axes of the rotors, and the grain is stripped as the heads move into the bite between the rotors.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1982Date of Patent: April 19, 1988Assignee: Deere & CompanyInventor: E. Cordell Lundahl

Patent number: 4679386Abstract: A harvester strips seeds from a standing crop while essentially leaving the stems of the crop attached to the soil. The harvester comprises a mobile main frame and a vertically adjustable harvesting header carried thereby. A first axially transverse rotor is mounted on the header with its axis generally below the level of substantially all the seeds on the standing crop. The first rotor includes a hub and outwardly projecting stripper elements. The stripper elements define longitudinally spaced openings on the rotor periphery of a width greater than upper seed-bearing heads of the crop, permitting the introduction of the seed-bearing heads into the rotor interior as the machine advances so that the seeds are impacted by sides of the stripper elements interiorly of the outer end thereof. A second axially transverse rotor is disposed parallel to, above and forwardly of the first rotor and has a generally cylindrical outer periphery adjacent the periphery of the first rotor.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1982Date of Patent: July 14, 1987Assignee: Deere & CompanyInventors: E. Cordell Lundahl, Neil L. West, Homer D. Witzel

Patent number: 4550554Abstract: An auger cutter, windrower, and conditioner for standing crops such as hay, including a cutting auger with cutting teeth on the peripheral edge of the auger flight and a conveyor auger to move cut crop to a central area to be discharged as a double windrow.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 1984Date of Patent: November 5, 1985Assignee: Ezra C. Lundahl, Inc.Inventors: E. Cordell Lundahl, James G. Wiser, W. Ray Thornley, Laurel H. Jensen

Patent number: 4507910Abstract: An automatic height control system for a header on a farm implement is disclosed wherein the height of the header is continuously controlled in response to the height of the crop on which the header is operating. The top of the crop is detected by sonar detection units, and appropriate electronic and electromechanical means are provided for controlling the height of the header in response to signals from the sonar detection units.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1983Date of Patent: April 2, 1985Assignee: Ezra C. Lundahl, Inc.Inventors: W. Ray Thornley, James G. Wiser, E. Cordell Lundahl
